Sayonara 2016! Yōkoso 2017!!!

Welcome 2017!!! My friend, Paula, of the Knitting Pipeline Podcast, did a review of her knitting projects for 2016.  What a great idea! So here's a review of the quilting I've done in 2016:

Client quilts quilted:  77
Charity quilts quilted:  5
My own quilts quilted:  24
Total quilts I quilted in 2016: 106

Of my own 24 quilts, here is the breakdown:

1 Queen size quilt
7 Twin/throw size quilts
3 Baby quilts
10 Wallhanging/Mini quilts
3 Tablerunners

I have quilted 301 quilts since I first got my APQS Freedom longarm sewing machine in June, 2012. Number 301 was a client quilt I quilted on December 31, 2016.

Two of my quilting highlights in 2016 were, winning 1st Place Viewer's Choice at our Dakota County Star Quilters quilt show in April, for my Bob & Weave quilt--made and quilted by me, from Strip Your Stash, by Gudrun Erla:

And getting Honorable Mention in the Modern Category at our Minnesota Quilters quilt show in June, for my Tsukubai quilt--my arrangement of Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, quilted by Angela Walters:

While sewing and quilting this year, I listened to a lot of audio books--101 in total. We can download them free from our local library, via the app, OneClickDigital. I keep track of the books I've read on Goodreads. I want to give my husband, Mahlon, credit, too, as he reads aloud to me many evenings while I sew. Here's a review of my books this year:

And a video of my most popular Instagram photos of 2016, where I am graceandpeacequilting:

Also, in December of 2016, I made my own 2017 mini quilt calendar. It took a lot of time, effort and trial and error. They are 12 of my quilts from 2016. Here's how they came back from the photo shop:

Then I trimmed and cut them apart, and hole punched each month. They come out quite small and can be hung in one's quilting area.

Now we are in 2017! My small group of quilters, the Scrapbaggers, has decided to do a One Monthly Goal. We listed 12 UFOs and want-to-makes. Every month we are drawing a number and we work on that item for the following month. Here's my listing, by photo collage:

One photo got in there twice, so I'll have to redo that. I'm numbering them 1 through 12, from upper left going clockwise. We drew number 2 for January. That is my Lego quilt. I've got my momentum going! (Read Paula's podcast notes on momentum here--halfway down.) I started out the month with 10 blocks, and now I'm up to 55 blocks! Nine more blocks to go. I never would've believed I could get this far! I keep giving myself the momentum talk in my head.

In our small group, we are each also going to make a red & white quilt in 2017. We'll enter them in our Minnesota Quilter's 40th anniversary quilt show in 2018. The traditional 40th anniversary gift is "ruby", therefore we're doing red & white quilts, each person doing the quilt of their choice.

I am going to do Bonnie Hunter's Talkin' Turkey quilt. Bonnie has a great scrap quilt style. And, as she said in her recent Quilt Cam, we've got to figure out ways to use up our 30 year old stash!

Grace and peace! ~Nancy

  1. 105 quilts! That is a lot of quilting, long arm or not. You left a comment on my blog, but, you are a no reply blogger, and there isn't an email address with your profile. Thanks for visiting my blog. Happy New Year, and hope you get lots done in 2017!

    1. Thanks, Mary! I hadn't realized how much quilting I'd done last year until I tallied up. And yes, the calendars are going to friends, clients and neighbors.

    1. Thanks, Paula! Your "Momentum" episode has really stuck with me and motivated me. I have 3 sides of the hand sewing to do now on the binding.

  6. An fascinating discussion is value comment. I think that it is best to write extra on this matter, it won’t be a taboo topic however generally people are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers June 2017 Printable Calendar
