Gretchen Graduates

My neice, Gretchen, graduated from Eagan High School! I made her a t-shirt quilt and it was displayed at her graduation party over the weekend.

This t-shirt quilt was a total surprise for Gretchen--my sister, Bonnie, went through Gretchen's drawers and thinned out her shirts when Gretchen was at school. Gretchen didn't seem to notice she was missing any shirts, until the big reveal day!

Gretchen said her favorite square is the Chick-fil-a square! The "M" is from one of her dance costumes, when her dance group danced to "Hey Mickey".

The quilting is "Loopy Over You".

Gretchen made the "LOVE" t-shirt in Sunday school class.

Backing is an Angela Walters extra-wide backing from Quilt Cove.

I did the piecing using the "Step-Down" method, invented by Sarah Fielke. She teaches a Craftsy class on the technique, called "Big Techniques From Small Scraps."

It was a super fun celebration. Congrats, Gretchen!!!

Beyond the Dotted Lines

Regina made this bubbly modern quilt, called "Beyond the Dotted Lines". All the fabrics are polka dot, therefore the name, Beyond the Dotted Lines".

She wanted straight lines spaced at 3/4", which called for a lot of ruler work,

figure 8's, wavy lines,

ribbon candy,

throw in some orange peel quilting and random circles.
The extra wide backing had bubbles, also.

This quilt is a kit from a Twin Cities quilt shop, Millie P's Quilt Shop. They were featured in the Quilt Sampler magazine, Fall, 2014 edition, and this was their original quilt pattern. Kits are still available from the shop. Check out the Cuddle version, as well.

Great job, Regina!

High Heels

Marcia made this quilt from a kit she got at a quilt shop in northern Minnesota.

She worked on it at a recent quilt retreat and got it finished up.

The backing is matching high heel fabric!

Marcia's quilt was flat, square and beautiful to work on. She chose "Flirtatious" as her edge to edge design, which goes great with the silhouette of the shoes! Great job, Marcia!!!

Two Sided T-Shirt Quilt

Laura has a tradition of making t-shirt quilts for the high school graduates on her cul-de-sac.

This young woman had so many t-shirts that she made it a two-sided quilt!

The quilting is "Cinnamon".

This "San Diego" block is super cute and was the only one that had raised applique and had to be worked around.

The borders and backing fabric is a batik from Quilt Cove.

Laura said this is the last graduate on her street, so her last t-shirt quilt for now. Great job, Laura!!!

I is for...

Wendy made this great quilt for her son, Isaac's high school graduation!

Loading it up on my APQS Freedom...

The quilt pattern is called "I-Strip" by Gudrun Erla. Wendy made use of her Stripology ruler and cut from her stash.

The quilting is "Bauhaus" done in King Tut, Lapis Lazuli, a variegated colorway. Backing is a mottled blue.

I is for Isaac--the perfect quilt for your young man, Wendy! Congrats to him!

As I was quilting that day, it looked like snow was falling from the sky. We have 3 big cottonwood trees in the woods behind our home. Here's a video of the "summer snow".

I-Spy

Kim made this diverse I-spy quilt for her grandson!

The quilting is "Modernish 3" in Light Tan thread.

She said her grandson kept getting bigger, so she kept adding more to his quilt. He's 6 years old now and he will no doubt find all the different squares interesting.

Her grandson loves lions, so she chose this fabric for the backing. Notice the map of Africa outlined behind the zebra.

This will bring him endless hours of imagination. Great job, Kim!
