⧓ A Formal Affair ⧓

Looking for a fun layer cake pattern?! Here's one:
Patti of Creek Side Stitches was demoing this quilt pattern, "A Formal Affair", at the Red Wing, MN, quilt show in February. She has a number of books and patterns that mainly use pre-cuts--layer cakes, charm squares, candy squares and jelly rolls.

I started out by making "accordion sewn half-square triangles", the Eva Paige Quilts method. This is an easy way to make HSTs so that each one is different, no pairs. Watch the three videos explaining this technique, starting here: Accordian Sewn Scrappy HSTs, Part 1.

My blue and white HSTs before I sewed them into a loop and cut them apart:

✂️Fabric Shopping For Quilters at IKEA 🇸🇪

The last three quilts I've made have IKEA fabrics for the backing:

Many people have asked me where I find fabrics at IKEA. These are my strategies for fabric shopping at IKEA.

First of all, there are 50 IKEA stores in the USA, plus IKEA is located in 52 different countries, so each store will have different results. We live near the Minneapolis IKEA, next to the Mall of America, so this is where I do all my IKEA shopping.

Shibori Beauty

Shibori is the Japanese art of tie-dyed cloth, done through tying, sewing, pleating, wrapping, etc. Moda fabrics has made shibori fabric more accessible by printing it.

My friend, Missy, made this beautiful indigo quilt using Moda Shibori fabrics:

✂️Meadowland QAL✂️

Imagine 2,400+ quilts that are all the same, yet all different...

This is what is happening over at #MeadowlandQAL on Instagram right now! I'm participating, along with 2,400+ quilters, sewing the Meadowland quilt, each quilter making it their own, with different fabric choices and sizes. Many of the participants are making 2 or 3 different versions! This is such a fun quilt, it's no surprise it's become so popular. We're on our final week of the QAL, week 6.
