Shibori Beauty

Shibori is the Japanese art of tie-dyed cloth, done through tying, sewing, pleating, wrapping, etc. Moda fabrics has made shibori fabric more accessible by printing it.

My friend, Missy, made this beautiful indigo quilt using Moda Shibori fabrics:

Having lived in Japan for 24 years, I make and quilt a lot of Japanese style quilts. I have a Pinterest folder of quilting motifs that have a Japanese look--Japanese/Asian Quilting.

When choosing a quilting design for Missy's quilt, I recalled using "Feathered Frond" on my Japanese friend's silk kimono patchwork table runner and how great it looked with a Japanese theme. Here's a close-up of Yokii's silk table runner:

And here is Missy's quilt, being quilted with Feathered Frond:

A close-up:

Being a Japanese quilt, I thought it should be photographed in a Japanese garden. These photos were taken at Joryo-En, the Garden of Quiet Listening, Carleton College, Northfield, MN.

And one last whole quilt pic:

Beautiful quilt, Missy!!! You've inspired me to put some of my indigo fabrics together.
