And here's the finished quilt:
For quilting, I chose one of my favorite modern motifs, Figure 8s, in a micro-mini version. Each row is only 2" tall!
I used Quilter's Dream Batting--Poly, which hangs very nicely for a wall quilt--thin, with just enough definition, lightweight and doesn't have the "crinkle-effect" that cotton has.
Back:
The backing fabric came 60" wide and 2 yards long. Since the quilt is 60" square, I needed more width. There was enough extra fabric to do some fussy piecing, as you can see below:
My DH calls this the "Four Fish Kissing" quilt!
Quilt Info:
Pattern: Wallflower by Melly and Me
Size: 60" X 60"
Fabrics: Tula Pink Solids
Fabrics: Tula Pink Solids
Backing: from IKEA (a couple years ago)
Quilting Design: Micro-Mini Figure 8s (Rose calls them Wishbones)
Batting: Quilter's Dream Batting--Poly
Thread: 60 Weight Glide--Sterling
Interesting Fact: My sister, Quilter Bonnie, spied this pattern first and she talked me into a sew along. I made a test block, and before I knew it I had the top finished.
I used a "hang it dang it" quilt hanger. This quilt adds a lot of great color and cheer to our new "guest room of faith":

Love the quilt and kudos on the expert piecing of the back! I'm curious about the poly batting not having the crinkle effect--do you mean it doesn't get all scrunched up with washing or that it doesn't hold the creases?
ReplyDeleteBoth! It doesn't crinkle up with washing, as polyester doesn't shrink, plus it doesn't hold a crease.
DeleteWow! I love it. At first I thought it was just a block from the thumbnail, but it looks so great as a whole wall quilt Effective use of Drunkard's path
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie! Yes, it's a variation on Drunkard's Path, templates and all! Ten squares per petal.
DeleteYou have impressed me again. The grey really makes the colors pop. I love doing those figure 8's though mine aren't near as perfect as yours. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks lovely in your Guest Room of Faith. Fish are the perfect symbol in such a room! I love the backing fabric you used. Seems kind of tricky how you matched it all. You did a great job of it! Now to work on mine. I have one block done with 39 to go!

ReplyDeleteYou find the coolest patterns! Love this, Nancy -- the colors are so vibrant. Great quilt for your Guest Room of Faith (love that).
ReplyDeleteStunning quilt, love the "fishes"! Beautiful use of colors, and your quilting is perfect, cute 8s! Thanks about the hanging system, looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and design as well as the little 8s quilting. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks very effective with the colours you have chosen. A lovely design, too. Great design choice for the final quilting.
ReplyDeleteI totally see how your DH came up with the name! A very modern quilt design that is pretty and spiffy that your guests will enjoy looking at.
ReplyDeleteWow! This stunner stopped me in my tracks on Instagram recently. It looks like it would be a fun, fast sew. I think your figure-eight quilting is the perfect complement to the design. : )
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy! WOWEE!! You are one expert at fussy piecing - I never in a million years would have thought or guessed that wasn't yardage for the backing. I can easily see the four fishies kissing - what a great pattern. Your fabric choices are spot on. They compliment each other so nicely and it looks gorgeous hanging on the wall. Finally, your quilting - what a fun design. It the piece some texture and adds another element without being over the top. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this one Nancy! I popped over to the pattern right away but she says applique templates. Is it applique or pieced? I think it would make an awesome baby/toddler quilt. The back is a stunner as well.
ReplyDeleteLisa, the blocks are drunkards path blocks. The cutting is with templates, although I used a rotary cutter for the straight lines. No applique. The curved piecing is all done on the machine.
DeleteWonderful quilt hanging in your Guest Room of faith. Your quilt swirl is too cute, also!
ReplyDeleteHow is this?
ReplyDeleteWhat a bold quilt!! YOU did a lovely job with the quilting and I appreciate the link to more information about that hanging system. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Your quilting complements the pattern perfectly, and I love the colors you chose.
ReplyDeleteWow! Love it! Great colors, and I now that hubby says it, I absolutely see four fish kissing!
ReplyDeleteWell done! This is a great finish! I'm in awe of anyone able to work out a transparency quilt design.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! So bold and modern! Quite different from most of the pieces you quilt :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great and the little quilting motif is perfect. I love the bright colors and the large scale of the outside petals!
ReplyDeleteThe solids really pop in this design. The regularity of the quilting motif sets off the large blocks very well. Thank you for linking to TGIFF!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous finish! It took me a second to see the 'fish'! The colors are so vibrant and your quilting is perfect! Eye popping gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilting! And I love the name by DH :) Enjoy your finish xo Melanie

Beautiful quilt! I love everything about it. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! Love the back too!
ReplyDeleteOoooo!! Nancy, I LOVE this! The colors are perfect, and that was fantastic match-piecing job for the backing. Yeah, poly is great for wallhangings - I usually don't want crinkle on those. Hey - if you think you'll have another finish soon, how would you feel about sharing it as a hosting spot for TGIFF for Aug 9th or 16th? Right now those spots are empty. We can provide code for the link-up, so it doesn't matter if you don't have a subscription for that. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat piecing of the backing. Love the bold large design and colours. They look great on the grey background. What an amazing finish!

Gorgeous, swirled AND unswirled! But I must admit that I had to scroll past the backing photo before my vertigo kicked in...phew, that's a bold print. I love the colors (on the top) and the quilting is great. Those Hang It Dang Its are the best, aren't they? Thanks for linking up to What I Made Monday!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt and I absolutely LOVE the quilting you did on it. I noticed the backing while it was on the machine but I really admire the job you did piecing it up so that the seams are totally unnoticable. Fabulous job!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is absolutely stunning! Love the fabric on the back! Thanks for sharing with Moving it Forward.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous design! And I love the quilting that you chose. It adds a nice texture without detracting from the quilt design! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful !
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is stunning! I love the colors and it made me giggle when I heard the name...Four Fish Kissing!
ReplyDeleteYou do an excellent quilt swirl! Fun quilt to do it on!
ReplyDeleteWow the piecing on the back is perfection! And you're quilting choice was perfect. This simple quilt looks so gorgeous because of the quilting choice. Great swirl. Didn't know it was a thing. I'll have to go check it out. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt, and your quilting on it. So modern and fresh. I can also see small fish inside the big fish, so that's eight fish kissing. I love quilts that give more the longer you look. Thanks for linking up to Clever Chameleon.
