My friend, Karen, is a new quilter. When she asked me what quilt pattern to use for a queen size quilt for her daughter in North Dakota, I had one answer: Meadowland!!!
Karen used 1/2 yard cuts. Thirty-six blocks call for 18 half yard cuts, plus background:
I recently quilted my own Meadowland Number 2 in Random Clams and love how that looks, so I put Random Clams on Karen's Meadowland, also:
Quilt Info:
Pattern: Meadowland by Then Came June
Size: 96" X 96"
Batting: Quilters Dream Batting--Wool
Thread: Glide--Linen
Quilting: Random Clams
Interesting Fact: Wool is a great choice for bed quilts, especially in colder climates. It's warm, insulating, lightweight, drapes nicely, has great loft therefore the quilting shows up nicely, and it's washable (cold water, gentle cycle).
For backing, Karen pieced together this beautiful Japanese shibori print, by Debbie Maddy for Moda, which she used on the front, also:
Great job, Karen!!! Your daughter will love it!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

Beautiful! Karen's daughter is going to be thrilled :-)
ReplyDeletePerfection! I can’t wait to use the pattern-a definite good one as well as that pantograph.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts, you did a wonderful job on the quilting!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous quilt and your quilting is adding a ton of texture to it.
ReplyDeleteI got to see that quilt in person, and it is gorgeous. Your quilting just makes it even better!
ReplyDeleteAll those blues! What a gorgeous combination and beautiful design. You took it over the top with the quilting!
ReplyDeleteLove those blues and a very pretty quilt and the quilting really is great - not overdone!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, and very pretty quilting design too!
ReplyDeleteClassic pattern in my opinion. Love the random clams. They show up so nicely on this! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
ReplyDeleteKaren's quilt is gorgeous! That Random Clams design is perfect. It has the overall effect of a traditional Baptist Fan, but perhaps more forgiving when lining up rows? Is it a pantograph? What color and type of thread did you use? Is it an off white or a pale blue? Asking because I love how it blends so nicely into both the light and dark fabrics. Really beautiful job. I'm about to load up my first custom quilt with a double batting (unless I chicken out!) -- planning to use Quilter's Dream wool over Hobbs 80/20. And I have more of that wool waiting for my giant King pineapple quilt, hopefully to be quilted early in 2020. Wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! and I love how your quilting added texture but allowed the quilt pattern to still shine!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to TGIFF too!!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is absolutely stunning! Karen did an amazing job! I love the random clamshell quilting that you did on it. I’ve yet to try wool batting, but living in the northeast, I’m excited about giving it a try. Thanks for sharing Karen’s beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and quilting!
ReplyDeleteI love blue quilts and I love Karen's quilt. Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
ReplyDeleteI too love a blue & white quilt, so this one really caught my eye... it's beautiful! I love the 'traditional' style quilting on it, really allows the piecing & fabrics to shine. I've used wool batting a lot, just need to be careful with washing. Have you used a cotton/bamboo/with a little silk mix at all? It apparently results in a nice soft drape, but I've yet to source it here in NZ.
ReplyDeleteEvery single Meadowland quilt I've seen here and on Insta has been fabulous. Simple but so effective a pattern. I love how you quilted it too - is it a pantograph? There's just something about a blue and white quilt!
