🎄 Christmas Sewing ✄

A layer cake of Holiday Homies by Tula Pink is what inspired me to sew this quilt for Christmas. I love how it turned out!

A big part of the fun of this quilt, besides the fun animals in sweaters, is the "Sherpa" backing--so soft and snuggly! I quilted it with large freehand ribbon candy:

I used a thin layer of 100% cotton batting--Quilter's Dream Batting, Request. For the binding, I trimmed the backing to 2" beyond the top, folded it in twice and stitched it down. Fast and extra snuggly:

This is a gift for my DD1 and SIL, who are big dog lovers. Meet Lincoln and Foz, their two dogs:

Here's a Christmas tree door decoration I made this year:

Actually, I made two--one for my parents to put on their apartment door and one for us to put on the door to the garage. They are almost identical.

As you can see here, they're the same on the back as the front. The pattern recommended bells on the ends of the branches, but I had gold beads and sewed three on the end of each branch.

Here's the pattern:

I stitched a Christmas version of Tasha Noel's Joyful Barn Star quilt patternI was working on the final hand stitching while on a road trip to Zumbrota, Minnesota's "The Old Covered Bridge".

There was a bit of snow coming down that day.

This is my 3rd version of this design. You can see my summer version here. And my autumn version here.

  1. Great finish on the quilt. I really like the way the quilting pattern works with the blocks.
Love the idea of the door trees. Smart idea when you only have a small area.
And your barn star looks lovely on the door.

  2. So many cute projects, Nancy! I love the Tula Pink quilt. I think I like that line the most out of all of her fabric. Want to whip up one for me? (Just kidding) I hope that you stopped in at the quilt shop while you were in Zumbrota! The photo of your quilt by the covered bridge is great! Those little trees are a fun idea too.

    4. Helen, google search "no reply blogger fix" and you'll come up with a number of sites with the fix. I had the same problem at the beginning until someone told me, too.

    1. Hi Vicki! That pattern doesn't seem to have a web site or pdf download. The pattern is by Wendy Hager of Material Possessions Studios, Ladera Ranch, CA. I bought my pattern at Glad Creations in Minneapolis.

  8. I love that little quilt and the back looks luscious. Is Sherpa cuddle or something else? The trees are adorable, too. You have done a lot of nice things for Christmas sewing.

  9. Love, love! Big fan of Tula and your quilt from her Holiday Homies collection is wonderful, especially with the sherpa Cuddle on the back. We just got that in our store (Always in Stitches in Noblesville Indiana) We also carry the tree door decoration pattern which I love. It's so cute. I like your idea of the three beads instead of the bells. Cute idea. The Joyful Barn star quilt looks perfect on your door. So Christmasy! Finally, I love covered bridges, but have never thought of getting photos of my quilts with them. What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing your Christmas quilts on my special holiday Wednesday Wait Loss.
