⾊ Color Makes Me Happy! 🌈

Our local quilt guild, Dakota County Star Quilters, has an annual quilt show, and unlike most shows, our show stays up for a month. Here's a view from the balcony on set-up day, last Saturday:

On opening day, Tuesday, February 19th, our guest speaker, Mike Ellingson of Blue Earth, Minnesota, entertained us with 6 Ikea bags full of his quilts.

Mike is a retired music teacher and a talented storyteller. His quilts and designs especially embrace ombre fabrics.

We have 126 quilts in our show this year. Besides a general category, this year we have a Gypsy Wife quilt category, which our guild did as a sew-along in 2018. Four quilts were entered. I made a push throughout the month of January to assemble, quilt and finish mine for the show:

Here are Sunny's and Arlette's Gypsy Wife quilts:

And Jeanette's Gypsy Wife quilt:

There were others that were doing the GW sew-along, so I expect we'll see more next year.
Another category is the "What's on my table?" challenge--something for your table that is made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics. No names are attached to these 20 entries and viewers get to vote for their favorite. One of these is mine, but I'll wait until the show is over to tell you which one:

I have 9 other quilts in the show this year. You may recognize them from my blog. My Ric Rac quilt:

My Party quilt:

My Rainbow Feather quilt:

Here is Ruby Tsunami:

Dot 'N Dash:

My Naomi Collection mystery quilt:

My Summer Joyful Barn Star quilt and my Autumn Joyful Barn Star quilt (next to my quilting cousin's adorable spool table runner!):

And my Christmas Joyful Barn Star quilt (bottom center):

Here are a couple more photos of the show:

If you're in the area, stop in for a colorful quilt show! And don't forget to vote for Viewer's Choice!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  10. I can't imagine a show that goes on for a month! You have great quilts in the show, hard to say my favorite, but you know I am partial to your RicRac quilt.

  11. Hello Nancy. I enjoyed this post with all of your quilt show entries as well as other quilts. I particularly love your ric rac from Drunkard's Path units. It is a very clever idea. I also love your Gypsy Wife and the way you put yours together with those thin strips of background fabrics and thin dark border.

  12. What a great looking show! I wish I could travel to see it in person but you gave a great overview of it. It's awesome your guild can have it on display for a whole month giving everyone plenty of time to view it. I'm sure a lot of quilters go more than once!
