Sayonara 2019 🐗, Yōkoso 2020 🐭

Farewell 2019! Welcome 2020!!! Here's a Grace and Peace Quilting review of 2019 and a preview of what's to come in 2020, the year of the mouse/rat in Japan. First, 2019:

I quilted 56 quilts in 2019, 27 of my own and 29 for others. I have cut back so that I only quilt my own quilts and for very close friends. Of my own 27 quilts, here's the breakdown:
5 Queen size quilts
12 Twin/throw size quilts
1 Large wall quilt
4 Mini quilts
2 Table centers
3 Hand bag fabrics

I have quilted a total of 607 quilts on my APQS Freedom longarm quilting machine since it arrived in June, 2012:

Here's number 607, December, 2019:

Here are my 2019 "Top 9" from Instagram. They include 5 photos of Meadowland quilts! Three photos are quilts I quilted for friends: top left--Tracie of Riceford Streams, middle left--Missy of marynvoigt, and center quilt/center row--my friend, Karen's:

One of the benefits of working at Quilt Cove is that during the month of our anniversary of starting work there, we can make one purchase at 50% off. My anniversary month is September. Here's what I purchased in 2019, of which my favorite item was a bolt of White Paper Grunge:

Once again I made an easel quilt calendar for 2020 via Shutterfly, featuring some of the quilts I made in 2019:

A couple of my quilty highlights for Christmas, 2019, include  an Advent calendar of fat quarters from Crimson Tate, counting down to Christmas:

A fat quarter bundle of Jeep fabrics, to go with my new-to-me Jeep Wrangler:

And a new book, plus a yard of bamboo fabric gifted to my daughter and me, from her friend:

While sewing this year I listened to 124 books, via RBdigital and Hoopla from our local library, and thanks to DH, who reads aloud to me during sewing evenings! I keep track of my books on Goodreads:
In 2019, our DD2, Susanna, went on an 11-month mission trip to 11 countries, with the World Race. The countries included Japan, Taiwan, China, Mongolia, Krygystan, Kahzhakstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Lebanon, and Jordan. Fifteen of us parents met up with her team in the country of Georgia:

My quilting small group did "Resolution Quilts" in 2019. Here's how it works--we write down the quilts we would like to finish in the year, up to 13, but how many we list is up to us. For each quilt listed, we contribute a fat quarter. When the year is over we'll have drawings for the fat quarters. Our chances correlate with how many Resolution Quilts we finished in the year. Here's my 2019 list and the 13 correlating finished quilts:

Here's my 2020 resolution list, of which I found it easy to fill all 13 lines:

2020 is the year of the mouse/rat in Japan, which I relate to as cultural. Most New Years cards in Japan have the symbol of the animal of the year. My Tokyo quilting small group has decided that our summer homework this year will be zodiac animal appliqué blocks. There are 6 of us in the group, including 2 of us who are now long distance. We will make 6 identical blocks, keep one and swap the others. We're spanning two summers this time, with homework due Autumn, 2021.

Happy New Year!!! Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  11. This was a fun fun post to read. Thanks for sharing. Your fabric purchase look delicious! Mostly, I am in awe at the number of quilts you have machine quilted in such a short time. I have a sit down long arm, and one a month is pushing it for me these days. I do work full time which makes a difference.

P.S. I absolutely LOVE the resolution quilt challenge!

  15. Wow! Looking at this summary is crazy impressive! The idea of the easel calendar is a lot of fun and a good way to continue to enjoy your projects. Someone else mentioned tracking their books on Good Reads. That might be a fun thing to begin doing this year. Lately I have been on a reading kick and I do love audio books while in the sewing room or the car. Great post Nancy. Happy New Year to you and your family.

  17. Wonderful quilts, Nancy! I really like your idea of a calendar and the resolution challenge is a novel idea. I too use Goodreads, but my reading mojo is lacking! I really need to get busy with audio books so I can sew and read! Win-win!

  18. WOW, you have been very busy. I am very impressed by your work ethic towards your physical and spiritual health. I would love to know more about the top quilt shown in this blog. The 2020 Japanese influenced quilt. Is this a pattern of your own? Please let me know. Thanks. My email: quiltyladyrr at gmail dot com. Robin K.

  19. So many beautiful quilts finished! I have no doubt you'll finish your 13 this year too. Love the fabrics you shared. So pretty! I'm intrigued by the Advent fast quarters. Did you receive one a day during Advent or one a month throughout the year? Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
