◣◤Haphazard◥◢

Quilt Info:
Maker: Nancy of Grace and Peace Quilting
Pattern: Haphazard Quilt Generator by Liz of Savor Every Stitch
Size: 32" X 32"
Fabrics: Zen Chic Solids, leftover from my Church Window Quilt, plus White Paper Grunge for background and back.
Batting: Quilters Dream Batting Poly
Thread: Glide--White
Quilting: Sweet Orange Peel

Interesting Info: Try this FREE half-square triangle quilt pattern generator, designed by Liz, a retired software engineer and current quilter extraordinaire!

You choose the block sizes, final quilt size, number of colors represented, up to 10, and the proportion of large to small blocks. If you're not sure about the arrangement that is generated, click the button and a new design shows up. The hard part is picking just one arrangement! I stuck with my 9th try!?! Here's the lay-out I worked from:
First, I made all my HSTs, then followed my pattern and set it all up on design boards. This was super fun and felt a lot like paint-by-number!
Here's the original layout. Some squares got rearranged a bit before the stitching began!
I quilted my Haphazard with one of my new favorite edge-to-edge designs, Sweet Orange Peel. It has a very lacy look:

We took a walk along the Minnesota River on a beautiful day and brought my quilt with for some #quiltsinthewild photos:

This colorful quilt is now hanging in our guest room of faith:

Thanks for stopping by!!! Hang in there, and keep on quilting--we'll get through this!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  3. I did play with the generator a long time ago but never made anything with it. I love your outdoor shots, looks like someone was standing in the river for that one, or on a big rock;)

  4. This is so much fun. I really love the quality of those solids and think the 9th try was definitely a winner.

  5. Great way to use those colors! I had to go back and enjoy your Church Windows again. Both quilts are lovely. We are hanging in and doing well here. I finally got some quilt mojo back and made the Hope quilt this week for the Hands2Help effort. I need to get the pictures taken and get it posted :-)

  10. I love this quilt, Nancy, and you took it on a fun walk! I have one baby quilt size Haphazard waiting to be quilted, mainly because I can't figure out how to quilt it. I like what you did with yours!

  11. This came out fantastic, Nancy! I hope you shared a picture of it with Liz! I tried her generator, too, but didn't attempt to actually make a version. So, is this a computerized or hand guided quilting pattern? It looks really good on your quilt, especially how well the diagonal lines in the quilting match up with the piecing. Was that difficult to accomplish or are you so awesome that it just comes out perfect automatically? ;-). Curious because a friend of mine who has IQ on her Millennium sometimes struggles with "drift" on edge to edge patterns, whatever that is.

    1. This is a computerized edge-to-edge. Leisha Farnsworth of QuiltingIt describes how to deal with "drift" on computerized pantos in her video, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjxvtTPL9uQ

  12. What a great quilt. I looked at the generator a while ago but I didn't actually try to make it. But I sure like yours. Your pictures in the wild are wonderful and give me all sorts of photo shot thoughts. Hum, I wonder if the quilt would have as much beauty if shown in a house under construction? There are still houses being built in our neighborhood.... Thanks for sharing all the eye candy!

  18. I really like how the quilting both accentuates the half-square triangles and creates a nice, soft texture. What a vibrant and fun quilt!
