Two ☮ Unity ☮ QALs

I have, not one, but TWO Unity quilt along quilts to share with you today, with the first being amazing! Hang in there for the second one!?!

First Quilt Info:
Maker: Lisa
Pattern: Unity QALby Bonnie Hunter--a mystery quilt released weekly over 8 weeks, during the pandemic of 2020.
Size: 75" X 97"
Batting: Quilters Dream Batting--Wool
Thread: Glide--Khaki
Quilting: Swirling Feathers
Interesting Info: This is only Lisa's second quilt! Her first quilt was just as amazing--a baby quilt made in paper pieced pineapple blocks. You can see it here
About her Unity quilt, Lisa said if she would've known ahead of time how many tiny pieces there are, she might not have made it! Being in quarantine, Lisa chose her colors and fabric from stash. They are quite unique and different from Bonnie Hunter's original design.

Great job, Lisa!!!

Now, the second Unity QAL quilt is my own. I only made it through round 1! ⤵️

Second Quilt Info:
Maker: Nancy of Grace and Peace Quilting
Pattern: Unity QAL
Size: 18" X 18"
Batting: Quilters Dream Batting--Poly
Thread: Glide--Linen
Quilting: Swirling Feathers
Interesting Info: I used the same colors as Bonnie Hunter. The second round design didn't quite look right, plus it was released at a busy time in my quilting schedule, so I never made it beyond round 1. I decided to quilt round 1, bind it, and call it a small wall quilt!

These added bits of words make me smile 😃 ⤵️

The outside borders also feature some kanji and woodland animals ⤵️

Here is the Japanese fabric I used on the back, plus you can see my hanging method, using 3M Command Tape. ⤵️

And here it is, hanging in our quilt gallery stairwell: ⤵️

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  1. I love your mini Unity! "If all else fails, pet the dog" is the perfect advice for these times - that is always so calming. And your stairwell quilt gallery is beautiful!

  3. I thought about doing that mystery but had so many other things going on at the time that I passed & seeing how spectacular these 2 turned out, not I'm sad I missed it!

  4. It is always wonderful to see the colorway interpretations of Bonnie's designs. I confess that Unity was too busy for me, as much as I like scrappy complication. (And I was pushing to get my own Covid quilt done.) Your stairwell makes a fine gallery!

  5. Wow Lisa did a great job for only her second quilt! She was brave doing a BH quilt so soon in her quilt journey. OMG your stairwell looks like it would in a quilt shop!

  8. Wow, that's quite a gallery you've got in your stairway! Like an art exhibit every time you use the stairs! I"m a big fan of making QALs work for you, so good for you for stopping when it made sense for you and calling it a success. I can't believe that the other Unity was only a maker's second quilt! Wow!

  9. Lisa's quilt is really a beauty! She has quite a future ahead of her looking at only her second quilt! Your Unity is also lovely. Beautiful fabric and color choices. Great idea to just do what you can. You have a pretty mini to show for it :-)

  10. It is amazing that Unity is Lisa's second quilt! Wowza. She definitely needs to keep going! I love your little mini - I think that's about all I could've gotten done too. BH's designs just have too many pieces for this kid. I love the look of them though!

  16. Both are lovely! The quilt by Lisa is absolutely gorgeous, beautiful colors and a huge quilt! I love your mini too, it was a very good idea to finish it like this, and it has a lovely place in your gallery!

  18. I’m really impressed with Lisa’s version of Unity! To change the colors and be so successful! Amazing!
I like your mini too! I always print her mystery clues, but I have only made one, En Provence. It’s smaller than the original and still waiting to be quilted! Sigh!

  23. That first unity quilt is quite something. She did a fabulous job, but I am curious how she has such a great stash for a new quilter. Brilliant idea to only do the center and move on.

  24. Beautiful Unity quilts. Several friends made smaller versions. I, on the other hand, didn't even start it. I love seeing your quilt gallery stairwell. I used to have a hallway where I could showcase my small quilts. Must think about how I can hang quilts on the stairway like you do. Thanks for the inspiration.

  25. Two beautiful Unity quilts! I'm not sure I'll finish all the rounds, I'm going to go till I feel it's done. I agree with Lisa, had I known how many tiny pieces there were, I might not have played along!
