πŸŽ‰ Quilt #700: Llamas In Sweaters πŸŽ‰

This is my πŸŽŠ 700th quilt πŸŽŠ to quilt since I bought my longarm in 2012!!!
Maker: Quilter Bonnie
Fabric: Llama Navidad by Michael Miller
Size: 57" X 76"
Backing: Rose Swirl Minkee
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Natural Request (thinnest thickness)
Thread: Glide--Cardinal
Quilting: Taj Mahal by Leisha Farnsworth @ Urban Elementz
Interesting Info: Bonnie bought this adorable layer cake at Tuesday Morning for less than half price, $19, before our local branch closed! She has bought jelly rolls at great prices there, too!
I quilted this Christmas-y throw with "Taj Mahal" quilting. Besides resembling the dome of the Taj Mahal, I think it resembles old fashioned Christmas ornaments:
For backing, Quilter Bonnie used this red "Rose Swirl" minkee:
For easy binding on quilts with Minkee or Sherpa for backing, trim the batting close to the quilt (I did this for Quilter Bonnie ⤵️), trim backing 2" away from the quilt edge, then simply fold over twice and machine stitch close to the fold. This gives a neat, simple, non-bulky finish!
Fun quilt, Quilter Bonnie! It will be super soft to snuggle under this winter!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  1. I love the quilting you chose. It does look like old fashioned Christmas tree ornaments. It's perfect! Thank you. I'm looking forward to machine sewing the binding as you described. Thanks for trimming it for me. What an honor to be your 700th quilt! Congratulations!

  4. Congratulations on your milestone. How lovely that it is a quilt celebrating Christmas. Definitely one to remember. Thank you for the tips on binding a quilt with minky/fleece on the back - I was wondering about just that the other day :-)

  8. Congratulations!!! I bought my longarm in 2013 but don't have nearly that many quilts under the needle. Let's see, in 9 years you've done 78 quilts a year, 6.5 per month, or 1.5 a week. That would be consistently. I wonder how many I have done? I just haven't kept track. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy seeing what you've been working on.

  10. Seven HUNDRED?!!! WOW!! I went to a new-to-me local quilt shop yesterday in search of cute novelty Christmas fabrics and was disappointed that they didn't have more options. Might have to trek farther to my FAVORITE non-LQS, or even trick my husband by volunteering to pick up my son from college next week instead of asking him to do the round-trip drive to Boone... Just so I can duck into the wonderful quilt shop near his school. My son will be calling my husband like, "Where's Mom? They're kicking me out of the dorms so they can lock up!" And there I'll be, at the cutting table next to a towering stack of fabric bolts, blissfully unaware of the passage of time... ;-). Okay, I digress. Congrats on this milestone and yet another lovely quilt finish with another happy customer!

  12. That is one heck of an accomplishment — 700 hundred quilts! We should be celebrating. The idea of llamas in sweaters, so much fun. I love the quilting motif and binding too!
