🍼 Strip Lash Baby Quilt πŸ‘Ά

Gudrun is having a scrap QAL using 1 1/2" strips, featuring 6 of her patterns to work from and is giving tips on her bi-weekly video show. Info can be found here: GE Designs blog
Maker: Me!
Pattern: Strip Lash from Stripology 2 by Gudrun Erla
Size: 36" X 36"
Batting: Quilters Dream Batting--Orient
Thread: Glide--Cotton Candy
Quilting: Scroll Frieze #1 by Jessica Schick
Interesting Info: Before jelly rolls, I cut all my scraps and leftover bits into 1 1/2" strips. I have 6 tins filled with 1 1/2" strips, mainly pre-2008 fabrics, going back to calicos from the 80's, plus a lot of Japanese prints. With all those strips on hand, this little baby quilt went together fast! Here are two of the tins I have:
I am out of reds after making my "Ruby Tsunami" quilt, Talkin' Turkey pattern by Bonnie Hunter, a couple years ago.

In more recent years, I cut my scraps into 2 1/2" strips which can be used for scrappy bindings or jelly roll quilt patterns.
I wanted some simple quilting and used Scroll Frieze #1:
About half of my strips are Japanese fabrics--reproductions and modern prints.
This quilt will be going to Jack's Basket, where babies with Down syndrome are celebrated! Their latest newsletter says they need more quilts! They prefer quilts that are 36" square, so the basket fits into a box for shipping. For this pattern, I resized the "crib" size to make it 36" square.

And speaking of babies, meet our granddaughter, Laurel!!! We recently got to spend several days with our daughter and SIL, including a lot of baby loves and cuddles!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  3. Laurel is so precious! Congratulations, Nancy!! I’m so happy for all of you! This will be a thankful Thanksgiving indeed!

Your strippy hexagon quilt looks amazing. Your color palette is so rich; I just had to stare at the photo for a few minutes, analyzing the fabric assortment and trying to figure out why it was so appealing to me. Just beautiful! And once again, thank you for sharing your thread choice with us! When you use Glide 40 weight in the needle, do you wind the same thread for your bobbin, use Magna Glide Delights, Magna Glide Classic, or something else entirely? I have had trouble with fluctuating bobbin tension recently on a couple of Glide and Fantastico bobbins that I wound myself and was thinking that I should go back to prewounds for awhile, to reduce the number of variables as I’m learning the ins and outs of IQ. Do you have a handful of thread colors that you use over and over again? I feel like I’ve seen you using Glide Linen a few times before.

  15. Hi Nancy, I really love your quilt. I just bought the book for the pattern but it looks much more complicated than I expected. I'll have to look at it again when I'm in a more patient frame of mind. I'm so happy for you that you got to spend time with Laurel. Take care.

    1. Hi Nancy, thanks for your words of encouragement. I actually started and as you said, it's not difficult. It's about half done but I have to work on my son's quilt before I finish this one. Take care.

  18. I did the same strop-along, but I chose Strip Off, and am making a crib quilt for the Christ Child Society. I’m new to quilting, and I love in a small space, so I don’t have room for a buildup of a wide variety of scraps and stash. My crib quilt will be totally scrappy, but it’s turning out way nicer than I thought it would.
