Gudrun @ GE Quilt Designs hosted a one day quilt along (QAL) on January 28, 2023!!! Three of my quilt friends and I participated in the QAL. I'm grouping all four of our quilts together here, in the order that I quilted them!
Quilt Info #1:
Maker: Me!
Pattern: Amalie Supersized from GE Quilt Designs
Fabrics: Mostly from Yuzawaya fabric store in Japan
Size: 88" x 101"
Batting: Hobbs 80/20 Black
Thread: Glide--Marlin
Pantograph: Sashiko ⤵️ from Urban Elementz
Interesting Info: Lynn gave me 9 extra squares of fabric after cutting out her Amalie SS (see her quilt below, third quilt down), which was the starter for my quilt! From there I added many different fabrics from Japan, as well as sashing the blocks with black Japanese tsumugi--a nubby cotton! I started out with 56 squares of Japanese indigo prints.
The binding is a Japanese boro-type print!⤴️
For backing I puzzled together several Japanese prints.⤵️
Close-ups of some of the Japanese fabrics on the back!⤵️

Too much fun making this quilt!!! I didn't hear the exact number, but there were thousands of us quilting along on January 28th!

Pattern: Amalie Supersized from GE Quilt Designs
Fabrics: Wild Meadow by Sweetfire for Moda
Size: 89" x 101"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton

Pantograph: Daisy Daze ⤵️ from Karlee Porter
Interesting Info: Sue used Wild Meadow prints, plus added a number of blenders from her collection, to get the 56 squares she started out with!
She pieced together a couple of fun modern fabrics for her backing!⤵️
Love these prints!!!

Pattern: Amalie Supersized from GE Quilt Designs
Fabric: Yukata by Debbie Maddy for Moda
Size: 88" x 101"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Sky
Sashiko is a pantograph that looks perfect on Japanese fabrics! I used it on both Lynn's and my Amalie Supersized.⤴️⤵️
Interesting Info: Lynn lived in Japan for 3 years and has a love for Japanese blue and white fabrics!

Quilt Info #4:
Maker: Quilter Bonnie
Pattern: Amalie Supersized from GE Quilt Designs
Fabrics: Wild Meadow by Sweetfire for Moda
Size: 63" x 88"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Pink
Interesting Info: Bonnie used the same fabric line as Sue, above! They both used a grey accent--Sue used a darker grey and Bonnie used a lighter grey.
Bonnie used this silver grey extra wide backing.⤵️The pink thread looks great against it!!!

Nancy these 4 look beautiful. So many differences, but so many similarities. Love the quilting on each one!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful group of quilts and a fabulous idea for friends to sew along.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you and your friends and family rock those QALs. I can't seem to make them happen. Love the quilting on each one, and isn't it fun to see the fabric similarities. Well done , all of you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the closeup pictures of the fabrics and the quilting! THEY ARE GORGEOUS!! I'm not familiar with Japanese fabrics but I sure like what you showed!
ReplyDeleteFun seeing the similarities and differences on a beautiful group of quilts.
ReplyDeleteDidn't you all do well! Two blue, two pink, and all so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe quilts are fabulous, and I love the quilting designs you chose to complement the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThat's a neat quilt design, Nancy! Pretty in each color combination, too. I bet that was a fun QAL to participate in with friends!
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that there are 2 similar but different - Japanese prints and the Wild Meadow line. It is fun to see each quilters twist and then the final touch - your quilting. Love them all! Thanks for linking to TGIFF.
ReplyDeleteThese are all such great looking quilts. I always enjoy seeing the same pattern made by different people as their fabric choices change the appearance in so many ways. Love them all.
ReplyDeleteA color explosion in quilts! Fun to see you enjoy the quilt alongs with Suzy.
ReplyDeleteNancy , the quilting is fabulous ! I love how your work amplifies the quilt design and fabric . So fun to see all four together . Tremendous beauty everyone !
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of a quilting machine, I think of you with one exception - your work is thoughtful!
ReplyDeleteIt's always enjoyable to see how different quiltmakers interpret a design, and the four of these are great examples. Each one is interesting, and quite lovely. And it's marvelous that you could longarm quilt all of them, giving each one the quilting design attention it deserves. Gudrun created a lovely pattern, so it's not a surprise that so many quilters wanted to make it. Well done, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteFour lovely quilts, it sounds like you had a lot of fun quilting all together ;) Beautiful choice of quilting designs too, you have the eye to select the perfect one each time.
ReplyDeleteI love all the versions!
Thank you for sharing your work, and linking up!
Its always so cool to see the way that fabric and color can change the look of a pattern. Nicely done!!
ReplyDeleteLove how they are all beautiful, but ever so different. Well done. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteIf there's one thing I love in quilting, it's to see the same pattern done in different fabrics. These are wonderful and so beautifully quilted!
