This year I'm making butterflies from my spare stash of 5" squares! I'm using the Hope Takes Flight free pattern. Here are close-ups of my aqua blocks:
My 2024 Rainbow Scrap Challenge block count:
January: Dark/Bright Greens 16 blocks
February: Red 16 blocks
March: Purple 16 blocks
April: Yellow 16 blocks
May: Pink 16 blocks
June: Blue 16 blocks
July: Aqua 16 blocks
I made the following block as one of the original 16 blocks, picked for the color. After I made it, I took a good look at it and thought, maybe not! It was part of some fabric scraps that were given to me. I researched it and it's from a Tula Pink halloween line. Poison bottle?! I replaced it with another TP charm square. What would you do with it?

Love your butterfly blocks, so fun! Did you not feel that the TP bottle fabric was the right color?
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty in aqua! I actually made a few of those same butterfly blocks this week for my July Table Scraps project. I loved the method for constructing them, but mine turned out quite wonky! I was glad they were meant to be trimmed down. Yours are nice and straight and square! Do you know someone who loves Halloween? That poison bottle one might make a good mug rug!
ReplyDeleteI am glad your butterflies haven't flown away yet as I enjoy seeing them each month:)
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful Aquas!! I'd use the one of the tula pink - once you mix them all together it will be hard to find ?
ReplyDeleteI'd still put the block in. I like looking at your blocks to see if I have any of the same fabrics. I think I had a few of the Tula prints, but already used them.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting bottle of mystery fabric. Funny to see what shows up when we least expect it. Maybe the back, if not then into the orphan stack it goes.
ReplyDeleteI would keep that block in. It's fun to find surprises. Or make a little mug rug.
ReplyDeleteI'm having turquoise envy. Such a lovely array of fabrics turned into butterflies. As for the orphan block, if you plan to piece the back of the quilt, why not incorporate it that way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous collection! I think I would include it, but is it the color or motif bothering you? Sometimes her stuff is a little weird, but honestly, hardly would be noticeable in a scrap quilt. It could be a fun mug rug for someone who likes making their own essential oil sprays.
ReplyDeleteI’d probably use it, since the quilt is scrappy. And I like Kathleen’s take on it….essential oils! But if it’s bothersome, a mug rug for a gift is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteScrappy quilts always contain surprises so I wouldn't be fussed by the bottles. But you're the boss of your quilt! The aqua butterflies are all so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sue regarding the bottle. Your range of aqua butterflies are sure pretty! --TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty collection of aqua butterflies! I love the one with the winter theme, little bird and bare branches. A Halloween theme would be fun too, among spring, and star gazing ;)
ReplyDeleteAaah what lovely little butterflies fluttering out of your quilt studio, Nancy!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely. Your collection must look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteKeep for the back? I think it is a cool block and fabric. Also enjoyed that I found a fabric I stash as well - the tula pink with rainbow confetti on it :) xo
ReplyDeleteThat's a whole lot of gorgeous butterflies.
ReplyDeleteLove the butterflies. I'd leave the bottle in. I doubt many people would know the name of the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI would make a coaster or a pincushion with the one block. Thanks for joining my Sew and Tell party.
ReplyDeleteOooh Nancy! These aqua butterflies are awesome!! I love each of them...even then one you discarded! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
ReplyDeleteLove your butterflies! Your flock is growing!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful AQUA butterflies, Nancy! Thanks for linking up with the TABLE SCRAP Challenge link part!
ReplyDeletePerfectly pieced pretty butterflies Nancy. You will have a veritable kaleidoscope of butterflies by the end of the year.
