Breezy Table Runner + Heart Update

I bought a kit at Pine Needles Quilt and Sew in Rochester, MN, just a short drive from Mayo Clinic, and sewed this table runner!
Here's what came in the kit: a charm pack, accent, border and binding fabrics, and the pattern, all tucked inside a fun zipper pouch! ⤵️
My Quilt Info:
Pattern: Breezy, part of the Simply Charming Club by Me and My Sister Designs
Fabrics: Wanderlust by Create Joy Project for Moda Fabrics
Size: 22" x 43"
Batting: Quilters Dream Poly
Thread: Glide--Linen
Pantograph: New Zealand Koru ⤵️ from My Creative Stitches
Here's how the designer describes this new-to-me pantograph: "New Zealand Koru Edge-to-Edge features the symbol inspired by an unfurling silver fern frond. The koru reflects universal truths of new life, growth, renewal, strength, and peace." Interesting!!! Check out some images of New Zealand Koru here. Does this panto look like that to you?
The backing is fabric from IKEA, a decorator weight, so it's thicker than quilting cotton. ⤵️
I don't normally buy kits, but if I do, I like to switch them up so that the final quilt is not 100% like everyone else's. In this case, I swapped out the brown accent fabric for a dark blue blender. ⤵️
I also significantly changed the size. The pattern makes a 28" x 32" quilt. I made 2 extra blocks, using all 42 of the charm squares, and then made mine 22" x 43", just the right size for our coffee table, which btw, lifts up to brings a laptop to a working height. Thank you, Costco! ⤵️
On my last visit to Pine Needles Quilt & Sew, near Mayo Clinic, I got the next available kit--"Confetti"!!! The fabrics are adorable and I love "plus quilts", so I'm looking forward to this one!
Heart update: Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for my husband. Last Friday, just 1 day after he was put on the heart transplant wait list, he had a stroke at home.

I quickly realized something was wrong and called 911. The EMTs got him to the hospital in short order, and a doctor promptly did a procedure to dissolve the blood clot they found in his right brain. Within 30 minutes he was awake and once more talking and using his left side--what a miraculous medical procedure! He seems to have no residual effects from the stroke!

They let him come home on Monday, straight out of ICU. He is on hold for a heart transplant until he has a check up this week at Mayo Clinic.    Note: we had the check-up today, 11/12/25. It turns out he also needs transition on some meds, which will take awhile. Pray he can get back on the list asap--thank you!

Prayers are greatly appreciated.

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  1. Your husband certainly has my prayers - what a blessing those doctors are! How did you know he had a stroke? As we age, that becomes a worry.
I love the dark blue blender substitution. That is a really neat coffee table!
Take care and know you are being prayed for.

    1. I didn't know he had a stroke--I just knew something was wrong and called 911. He was sitting on the sofa, leaning over to the side at an awkward angle. I tried to straighten and wake him up but he was unresponsive and he was mumbling incoherently. I understand now that heart failure and stroke often go together--the blood is not being pumped fully through the heart, therefore blood pools in the bottom of the heart and can form a clot that can break off and travel to the brain.

  2. What symptoms did he have that you knew it was a stroke? I sure hope he passes the test and the transplant pause is changed to a go very soon. I like that quilting design you chose for your runner.

  3. I love your runner, Nancy! It definitely is perfect for that neat coffee table, and the quilting design is so interesting. It does look like a koru. I'm so sorry to hear your husband had a stroke - that must have been so scary for you both. I'm thankful for those EMTs and doctors who took care of him and that he is doing so well. Hugs!

  4. My prayers are with you and your husband. I hope he passes the test at Mayo so he can get a new heart soon. Until then you certainly have been blessed with the medical staff nearby! They sound miraculous. Thanks for sharing your table runner on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. I'm fascinated by the table that lifts up and down!

  5. Oh, Nancy! I'm so glad to hear you noticed something wasn't right and got your hubby medical attention quickly. Praying he gets a good report this week and they remove the hold for his transplant. I love the table runner, substituting the brown with the blue was a great choice. It fits your table perfectly.

  10. What a fun table runner, and I love the idea of switching things up in a kit so yours is unique. The Koru is known as a fiddlehead in our parts, and people love to eat them in spring with garlic and butter. Does this happen in MN? UGH on the medication switch and waiting, but so grateful for good medicine that reversed the stroke and you paying attention to your husband being not right!

  12. Nancy, you are in the right place for you and your husband. I hold you both close to my heart. Such a scary time. Simple kits are perfect for times like this, especially for an experienced quilter like you. Little thought required, but easy to adapt if you are inspired. Yes, I absolutely do see the relationship between the Pantograph the Koru fern.

  15. You are a heroe Nancy, everything depends on how quickly we act, and you reacted immediately. What a relief to know he's out of danger. I'm keeping my thoughts with you both, hoping that everything will turn out well.
Your table runner is lovely, and yes, the quilting pattern as pretty as the Koru fern. Great job! Quilting is such an important activity to keep the mind occupied.
Thank you for sharing and linking up, I'm hugging you both.

  16. So much excitement at your place. So sorry to hear it's the wrong kind though. Kudos to you for reacting quickly to your husband's stroke. I hope the meds change make a difference and that he doesn't lose his place in the list. I'm sending prayers your way, to both of you.
Love the table runner and the quilting is very representative of the fiddle head's as we call that fern up here. The brown you switch for blue is it the one we see in the picture of the kit? Very good call on the switch. That brown doesn't talk to me either. So much prettier with blue. Congrats on this great finish. ;^)

  18. I am only just catching up on your news. her I am thinking you were having a quiet time at home. Obviously not to be.
Thank goodness for all the wonderful medical staff. We do appreciate modern medicine.
But how are you? It must have been a frightening time.
I hope all is quiet now for a while as he settles into the new meds.
The hard part is waiting for that special phone call.

The table runner is gorgeous. I really like the way the shop presented the kit in the zipper pouch. The pouch of course is useful afterwards. Smart way to alter the pattern to suit your needs. (Love that table, by the way.)
That NZ design for quilting is great. Very representative of Maori designs.
Have fun with the next kit.

Thinking of you both. Best wishes.

  19. Wow! I love that blue fabric in your kit! I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's health! Thank God you reacted so quickly! Your entire family will be in my prayers, especially you and your husband.

  20. Oh my - how scary for you both! And how miraculous those procedures can be. I'll certainly keep you both in my prayers. I'm often tempted by those little kits, especially when they are cleverly packaged like that. Beautiful runner!

  25. You are such a whiz at putting kits together! Perhaps it helps that you seem to longarm every project in literally NO TIME at all. Did you know that I've never bought a kit in my entire quilting life? Nary a one in more than 45 years of quiltmaking. I contribute nothing to a quilt shop's profitability in that regard, and now, no longer buying fabric, I'm no help to the brick and mortar community. I'm determined to use all the fabric I have, and keep plugging along to that end.

I continue to pray for your husband every day. That he had no repercussions from that stroke is simply amazing. Let's get him back on that transplant list.

  26. So thankful for those clot busters, as we called them when I worked as a nurse. And so thankful you recognized the symptoms and got help immediately, and that he has no residual affects from the stroke. Praying for you both, and especially that he can transition from the meds and be back on the transplant list quickly. I really love your table runner and the pop of blue you changed for the brown adds a lot, to me! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Have a great week. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
