Here's my finished 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt!!! I was inspired to make a 9-patch & snowball quilt by Saiji's quilt, here, who was inspired by Blue Elephant's quilt, here!
Size: 67" x 78"
Pattern: 9-Patch & Snowball
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton, White
Thread: Glide--Linen
Pantograph: Nebula from OESD
I love this quilting, "Nebula"! With the front being so busy, it shows up best on the back side.⤵️
I enjoyed making these 9-patches month by month over the year, following the Rainbow Scrap Challenge calendar set up by Angela over at Super Scrappy! Last month I posted that I was considering taking two rows off the length. I did exactly that, so I have some pieces that I will eventually make into a baby quilt. I'll need to make more blocks to size it right.
This is all scraps, nothing bought new! I even had the black stripe for the binding on hand!!!
I do love this backing! It's half of a duvet cover I bought on sale at IKEA earlier this year. You can see the other half of this duvet cover on the back of my Margot quilt, here.
I love the random color placement of this rainbow quilt!
I tried to keep the blocks lighter colors. If you followed my progress, you'll recall that I pulled some dark purple blocks out back in September and replaced them with very light purple blocks. That alone was enough to lighten the quilt up! Good thing, too, as I didn't want to remake any more of the blocks!?!I do love this finished quilt!!! I will be doing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again in 2026. I haven't decided on the quilt yet. I have a Pinterest page of rainbow quilt ideas, as well as an Instagram collection of potential rainbow quilts! There's also the #rainbowscrapchallenge hashtag on Instagram to explore. The difficult part is narrowing it down to one quilt project!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

I just saved this page into my folder I started the first time I saw this quilt - I absolutely love it. First of all I love the text prints, it just makes the colors sing. And I love the way the darker snowball "edges" form star points. The binding you chose is perfect. Not to mention the quilting! :D Thanks for the link to your rainbow Pinterest page.
ReplyDeleteWell done, my friend! You completely finished this year's RSC and all from scraps. That is impressive. I'll look forward to seeing what you do next year.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous, Nancy! I have enjoyed following along as you made those blocks this year. Now it is lovely to see the finish!

ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and reading the process along the way! You do a GREAT job of journaling about quilting and I enjoy each and every post!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful - I like it very much
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous quilt! I love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteWow! That duvet cover is the perfect backing. The quilt front may have just inspired a few more. I love those colorful 9-patches paired with the snow ball blocks. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteSuper great RSC finish!!! and that backing - Oh mY Stars - I love it!!! Go you!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is BEAUTIFUL! it is so cool to have a finish come from scraps. . .look at all the yardage that was not harmed! LOL The backing was the perfect choice! I am with you about what pattern to choose for next year. . .there are just so many possibilities!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. Now I have to add it to my "quilts to make" list. Well done!!
ReplyDeleteI love, love love the backing fabric and it’s perfect for your gorgeous top!
ReplyDeleteYou have the best eye for fabric and duvet covers. Hard to believe you had all those black and white fabrics in your scrap bin. The striped fabric for the binding was perfect.
ReplyDeleteOne of the "gifts" that came with my Bernina 990 was a one year subscription to OESD's Monthly Spree Club. They have some great designs. I just wish more of them came in the file format that allows me to resize them.
Can't wait to see what you select for 2026.
What a fun quilt! I love the layout and the colors.
ReplyDeleteI got this pattern when I first saw you making it, because I love it! Yours turned out so great! I laughed out loud at your description of picking projects. I have a file of potential projects (with this pattern in it), plus various digital collections of inspiration. Narrowing it down is always the WORST! I've decided that each month I'm going to finish a WIP that has alot of the month's color dominating, so that I can get projects done. This means I can only pick a couple of other projects for the year & I already have a kit I want to use. So the decision-making is painful! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely one of my favorites for an RSC quilt. Love that Ikea backing...it is so much fun with the front. I can't wait to see what you chose for next year...you always pick great ones!
ReplyDeleteOh this turned out beautifully. I like the idea of keeping the colors light. And, the interesting light fabrics you used. I keep a file of ideas for RSC on my computer. I guess it is time to take a look at it soon! Here's wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful! I love the binding. Perfect.
