Vicki's Cascade

Vicki made this quilt top from a free Robert Kaufman pattern called Cascade, link here.
This quilt is a tumbler block with sashing. Don't you love how Vicki gradated her colors?!

The quilting she chose is "Americana Flourish", a feathery, swirly design.

Vicki had some concern about doing the binding on the zigzag edges. But looking at the pattern, I'd say the designer simply trimmed the quilt off straight on those two edges.

The backing is 120" wide muslin, pretty much the max my longarm can hold comfortably.

This will be beautiful on a bed. Great job, Vicki!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  4. This is wonderful. Did she add the sashing to each tumbler before sewing them together? Really great effect.

  5. Oo, I have this pattern in my folder, waiting to be sewn. This is lovely and inspiring!

I just finished a quilt with a similar angled edge. With bias binding, it isn't too hard to bind if Vicki just takes it slow. The inside angles are the tricky ones.

  6. I agree with Louise, but make sure your binding is cut on the bias! That's the only trick, really. Well, there are those funny mitres but you just have to figure it out once. Then do it exactly the same way for every angle. :)

I love her trip around the world pattern. I imagine it took extra time to add the sashing and make sure the colors were exactly right but, wow, it was definitely worth it. The quilting is beautiful. You really know how to make that machine work!
