Wabi Sabi Barn Star 🌟

Ask any Japanese what the phrase "wabi sabi" means and they will say, "That is very difficult!" Wabi sabi is a Japanese concept regarding traditional art. It's especially about appreciating things that are old and broken, but restored.

Finding beauty in the broken. The center square in this quilt is upcycled old indigo fabric from Japan. Maybe it was originally a pair of monpei, Japanese work pants. If you look closely, you can see where it was cleverly patched by a previous owner. This is wabi sabi:

For the backing on my 24" mini, I used this neat patchwork looking fabric from Japan:

This is my 4th Joyful Barn Star(pattern link) quilt. I have been rotating them by season and hanging them on our front door:

Here are links to my summer version, autumn version and Christmas version.

"Wabi Sabi" is also the name our daughter's team chose for themselves. Finding beauty in brokenness. You can check out their latest activities in Taiwan here.

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy
