♒︎ Modern Chevron ♒︎

My co-worker at Quilt Cove, Kyle, made this colorful, modern chevron quilt!

I quilted it with an edge-to-edge called "Calder". Alexander Calder was a modern artist know for his unique mobiles. This quilting resembles his artistic style:

Kyle had some 90" wide navy Minkee for the backing:

The way I choose thread color is to use the color I see the most in the quilt top, in this case, white. But when I tested the stitching on the outside margin, the navy Minkee came through to the top about every 10 stitches! I switched needles three times, went down to a size 16/3.5 and changed to a medium blue thread. Then all was well again.

This quilt was made from charm squares, or maybe layer cakes cut into 4 squares each.

Quilt info:
Maker: Kyle @ Quilt Cove
Size: 80" X 106"
Quilting: Calder
Thread: Glide--Tar Heel (blue)
Batting: Quilter's Dream Batting 100% Cotton, Natural
Backing: Navy Minkee
Interesting fact: Kyle can't remember when she made this, but it is moving off her UFO list now!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  3. Fun, dynamic modern quilt! Do you find that the thread color completely disappears into the minky? Smart to use the blue top thread. Different colors act differently in my machine, so I always wonder if some dyes are stickier, or smoother, or something!

  4. What a fun version of a chevron quilt. I don't think I have seen one done exactly like that before. I like the quilting design that you chose.
