Grab πŸ‘Š & Go πŸƒπŸΌ To California

In prep for our road trip to California, I made DH and myself each a case for our laptops:
The Grab and Go Sleeve from Sew Sweetness is adjustable to any size device or book. It is part of the Minikins Season 1 pattern bundle.

Although the pattern doesn't call for it, I like to quilt my fabric with the Annie's Soft and Stable. Quilting adds so much depth and stability to fabric and quilts. You can clearly see the "Egg Carton" quilting on DH's case, below:

I did "Retro Revolution" on mine, below. It doesn't show up in photos on the black, so here is the back view:

I picked some Tula Pink fabrics for the linings:
We stopped at two Japanese gardens on our drive to California: Shofu-En, part of the Denver Botanical Gardens, and the Japanese garden at International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake City.

We spent time with family in California. On our drive home, we visited three national parks, Yosemite, Arches and Yellowstone. But my favorite day was the day we stopped at 6 quilt shops, each cuter than the last!

The first was Corn Wagon Quilt Company in Springville, UT. They are just opening a retreat building next door.
Next we stopped at The Quilter's Lodge in East Draper, UT. The owner designed the building in cute quilt shop style, including a built-in retreat center and a lot of pine log balconies:
Our third stop was at Pine Needles in West Jordan, UT. This shop is in a super cute shopping area called Gardener Village. If Disney were to design a shopping area, this would be it, including children getting pony rides, a wedding reception happening and a lot of cute, old fashioned looking shops!
Quilt shop number 4 was Elaine's Quilt Block, in Salt Lake City, UT. The owner mentioned to me that they are moving to a new location later this summer.
My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe has three locations. We went to the main shop in Logan, UT. Don't you love their name?!!
Suppose Quilt Boutique is in Preston, ID. They have all kind of fabric--quilting cotton, rayon, knits, double gauze, as well as yarns:
My purchases (not sure why I'm so embarrassed to share what I bought--I'm pretty excited about everything):
Some stitching happened while on the go. I sewed 14 blocks of my next Meadowland Quilt on DH's grandmother's 221 Singer:
And for the driving time, I hand pieced 6 Lucy Boston "Patchwork of the Crosses" blocks for my summer homework with my Japanese quilt friends:
It was a fun road trip and it's great to be back home!

My own previous Grab and Go Sleeves can be seen here--#1, and here--#2.

I love Sara's tagline at the end of her teaching videos--"And don't forget, if I can do it, so can you!"

  7. Hi Nancy! Your road trip looks fabulous and what a wide assortment of shops you got to visit. I just LOVE your computer sleeves. The look perfect and I just adore your fabric choices. Especially the map fabric. You would giggle at me trying to see the egg carton quilting pattern - I was completely overlooking it. I move on, and came back three times before I finally could see it. Duh! So very nice. ~smile~ Roseanne
