⛪️Church Window 窓 QAL ⼳

Brittany of Lo & Behold Stitchery, released a new pattern, Church Window, in June, which I promptly fell in love with! I just finished a QAL (quilt along) with 400+ other quilters, making this beautiful quilt. Here's a photo journal of my weekly progress. Continue to the end to see my finished Church Window quilt with real church windows!

Week 1--fabric pull. I used a Zen Chic Bella Solids bundle, fabrics on left in photo below. I added the fabrics on the right, to get the count up to the required 18 fat quarters:

Week 2--cut out fabrics. Those 45 degree angles are easy to cut with a regular rotary cutting ruler that has a 45 degree line:

Week 3--sew "stained glass lead" on straight edges:

Weeks 4 & 5--arrange blocks, sew "stained glass lead" on 45 degree edges, sew 45 degree seams. This step was a bit trickier:

Week 5 continued--sew vertical seams. Top finished:

The pattern recommends pressing all seams open, but I still prefer to press to the dark side. I did press the long vertical seams open, as there are places where many seams come together:

Quilting in progress:

All quilted up:

Add some binding:

The backing is a duvet cover from IKEA:

Now for some church window photos. I will add, it is difficult to take photos with stained glass windows--either the window is clear and the quilt is dark, or the window is fuzzy and the quilt looks better.

This first one is taken in the chapel at my mom's senior apartment:

The rest are taken at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where my DH is pastor.

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  2. I love this quilt and will tuck it away as an idea for a rainy day - I need another spring like last to do all the wanna do projects. It is really gorgeous and I love the photo shoot. Good thing the pastor let you hang the quilt in the church (ha ha). It is a pretty church and fun to see your stained glass. What year was it built?
