National Dress👗Day

Happy National Dress Day!!! March 6th!!! This is my 2nd National Day/swap quilt that I have finished for 2022!!!
Quilt Info:
Contributors: Tama Quilters, Fuchu-shi, Tokyo, Japan
Size: 13" X 20"
Batting: Quilters Dream Poly
Thead: Glide--Tabriz Orchid and Monofilament
Quilting: Freemotion Quilting and Matchstick
Interesting Info: This block, designed by a Japanese quilter, is paper pieced, with a 3-D skirt, collar, buttons, and straps. What this meant was that freemotion quilting was in order!!!
I sashed the six blocks with a Japanese cotton "tsumugi" fabric. Tsumugi is made by using two different colored threads to weave the fabric--one color for the warp and another color for the weft. ⤵️
I'm a little fuzzy on who made which block!?! Here are close-ups of each one:
This is my block, going for the sailor girl look! ⤵️
The backing!!! ⤵️
My finished National Dress Day quilt hangs in my longarm studio!!! The tulip quilt next to it is another Tama Quilters summer homework swap block quilt from about 10 years ago!!!
A special thanks to Yoshie-san, Setsuko-san, Keiko-san, Akiko-san and Mihoko-san for their dress blocks!!!
I have a total of eight National Day quilts planned for 2022. The third one will be on March 21, National Flower Day, which coincides with the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere!

Stop by on March 21st to see my next National Day quilt!!!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  12. How pretty all those dresses are. Such a lovely idea to bring to mind all the ladies you fashioned each dress. A very sweet quilt. Love the little snippet of your room. It still looks very wintry outside the window.
