The Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) color for May was Sage and Forest Green!!! Here are my blocks:
I'm making blocks from the pattern, Scrap Happy Rainbow Connection, by Amy Smart. The pattern originally came out in Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine, Issue 85:
My blocks are 12" unfinished, 11 1/2" finished! A lot of my Japanese vintage reproduction prints are sage or pine green, so you'll notice a number of Japanese motifs.⤵️
I have a bolt of creamy white Grunge that I bought at half price as part of my quilt shop anniversary purchase that I'm using for background.
Normally I'm working through my scrap strip basket, but I didn't find much of this colorway there, so I went to another scrap bin I haven't touched much recently. Wellllllllll, I ended up with 32 blocks!?! Here's my count so far this year:
January: Red 9 blocks
February: Teal/Aqua 21 blocks
March: Yellow/Gold 16 blocks
April: Pink 18 blocks
May: Sage/Forest Green 32 blocks
Total so far: 96 blocks
Not the final layout!!! ⤵️ These will make several quilts. Check back at the end of the year to see how I mix them up!!!
We're already into the next month, June, which has been declared the RSC month of Dark & Bright Blue! I should have many Japanese indigo scraps for June!
Check out all the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks and quilts at Scrap Happy Saturday! You might find some block inspiration to use for your own scraps!!!
And come back here on Sunday, June 5th, for my next "National Day" Quilt, National Hot Air Balloon Day!!!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

You have made a lot of blocks. I think my strategy will be to pick up in July and go from there. It will be fun to see how many blocks and quilts you end up with for the year.
ReplyDeleteLooking good!! I like how you keep adding the colors to what you have! So fun to see it grow!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent pattern for choice for the RSC. I have green scrap envy. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteYour mixture of blocks on the wall in all the colors is just gorgeous, Nancy! Fun to see your green blocks up close with all those neat prints. These are going to make wonderful quilts!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lot of blocks! And all from scraps, too. Great pattern choice. Since we're only halfway through, I'd guess you'll get 4 or 5 quilts by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteYou really had fun with green, and the blocks are lovely. I'm curious if you will make one quilt at the end of the year, or several!
ReplyDeleteThose are looking great! 32 sage greens! Wow.
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see your block count growing by leaps and bounds!!
ReplyDelete96 blocks, wow! I liked the block done in one colour, but when all the colours are mixed, it turns the design into something sensational!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are stunning and the quilt is sure to be a beauty! Lovely rainbow of color!
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks and the fact that you’re just making quantities as fabrics dictate, with quilt assembly later on to be determined. Great minds… LOL. You certainly have lovely and varied scraps!
ReplyDeleteYou've got some really great prints in those blocks, Nancy. Can't wait to see the indigo you have for BLUE month!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice block design to make from scrap fabrics! It's great to see your progress through the year, and I'm sure your scrap containers are showing signs of reductions. I could make green blocks just fine, but I'd be in trouble with this month's dark/bright blue color. Blue, red, and purple are least evident in my stash, let alone my scraps. Isn't it interesting how we each choose and use colors? Enjoy making June blocks!
ReplyDeleteThese are all looking wonderful too. It will be fun putting them together at the end.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of blocks, Nancy. At this rate, I am sure you will have enough for two queen size quilts. It is terrific that you got such a lovely background fabric bolt at a great discount. Win Win Win!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like these blocks - and what a fabulous variation on a string block.
ReplyDeleteThose blocks will make some wonderful quilts. Thanks for linking up with Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday.
