At the end of March, my sister Quilter Bonnie, my quilting cousin Sue, and I did Gudrun's @ GE Designs Virtual Retreat, along with 250+ quilters from 45 US states and 9 countries!!!
Here are all three quilts Bonnie made from her retreat box using the "Passion" fabric line!!!
Quilt Info:
Pattern: Jewel by Gudrun @ GE Designs--this pattern will be in her new book, Stripology Mixology 3, to be released later this summer!
Size: 48" X 73"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton
Thread: Glide--Light Turquoise
Quilting: Butterfly Garden ⤵️ from Intelligent Quilting
There are butterflies in this fabric line, which inspired me to use "Butterfly Garden" for the quilting!
The main print in this fabric line includes Passion Flowers, an unusual and exotic flower I would often see growing on vines across walls in Japan, thus this fabric line is called, "Passion"! ⤵️
Interesting Info: As part of the virtual retreat, we each received a retreat box made up of fabrics, quilt notions, snacks and more!!!The fabric included 12 half-yard cuts, 3 yards coordinating background and 1 yard for bindings--enough to make 2 different throw size quilts and a table runner!!! Each retreater got to choose between 8 different fabric lines. Quilter Bonnie found this extra-wide backing that coordinates well!!! She used the same backing on both quilts and her table runner! ⤴️
Here's Quilter Bonnie's second virtual retreat quilt!!! ⤵️ Same fabrics, with a white background!!!
Quilt Info:Maker: Quilter Bonnie
Pattern: Strippy Stairways by Gudrun @ GE Designs--this pattern will also be in her new book, Stripology Mixology 3, coming out later this summer!
Size: 54" X 69"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% White Cotton
Thread: Glide--Linen
Quilting: Rosemary ⤵️ from Dastardly Line
Interesting Info: The first retreat quilt was made from 10" squares, and this one is made from 2 1/2" strips plus background fabric!
Gudrun's method is to cut each half yard into four 10" squares, two 2 1/2" strips and one or two 1 1/2" strips, depending on how straight the fabric was cut. Doing this, a bundle of 12 half-yard cuts will make two throws and a table runner or two!!!
Once more, here are all three quilts that Bonnie made during the retreat from her one fabric bundle!!! ⤵️ I blogged about the table runner, "Strippy Dippy", on a previous blog post. GE Designs just released the Strippy Dippy table runner as a FREE pattern on their web site!!!
Gudrun announced her next one-day Sew Along: the "Kimberly" Quilt Sew Along will happen on Sunday, July 31st, starting with a livestream at 10 AM CDT! This is the 7th SAL Gudrun has hosted since the pandemic started in 2020. It's free with purchase of pattern--anyone can join in!!! Sign up for her newsletter on her website for more details!Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

Great quilts! The fabric line would be out of my comfort zone but I love the color vibe :) And your quilting design choices are spot on. Congrats on three amazing finished for you and Quilter Bonnie xo
ReplyDeleteYou and Bonnie make a good team - pretty quilt, lovely quilting!
ReplyDeleteI love what Bonnie did with the retreat fabrics. They are fun and she got it all done! I am hoping the next one works out for me to do....we shall see. I have a whole bag of strips so I am off to download that table runner pattern and see if I can make it work!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts Nancy! That Strippy Stairway is my favorite, but those triangles are so cute too!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects, and the quilting really enhances them! Thank you for sharing the table runner link! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts. I've heard so many talking about GE, and have to find out more about her.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts. I've never joined a retreat because can't afford to leave home but virtual retreat? That's something to look into. Thanks for sharing. All those quilts look amazing.

ReplyDeleteOh wow great quilts Bonnie and I love the butterfly quilting Nancy!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun quilting retreat. Thank you for making it possible for me. I love all three quilts! You always pick the right panto for each quilt. I'm hoping to do the virtual retreat again next year!
ReplyDeleteThe colors of these quilts are so captivating!
ReplyDeleteNice quilts!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to both of you for the lovely quilts! Love that quilting Rosemary design. So cute. ;^)
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that to use the same fabric line and get three such different looks!! What fun you all must have had!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to run a retreat and I agree with so many that I would have not guessed the three quilts were made from the same fabric line. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like Gudrun is onto something! So many quilters. Obviously it's a lot of fun, and quilters are finishing their projects.... though I'm sure it helps having a longarm to get the quilting done more quickly. I'm glad you could participate, along with your sister and cousin. You're most fortunate to have a common interest in quiltmaking.
ReplyDeleteThese are simply beautiful. Same fabrics with three different looks. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty fabrics in the three quilts, and oh, how different they all look!

ReplyDeleteA lovely collection of quilts!! They look so good in these colours. I am loving the triangles but will have to wait for the pattern to be published. Hopefully soon.
