Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation has a new book--Perfectly Pieced Quilt Backs, and it is brilliant!!! Kelly has changed my mind about pieced backs!!!
Here are six backs I've made from the book, so far!!!
This book is filled to the brim with 30 different creative quilt back ideas, in three different sizes each! Plus, it contains a link for 18 quilt patterns for the front of your quilts! ⤵️
Now, for my six quilts and six quilt backs!!!
This is the front of my Katrina quilt: ⤵️
Here's the back! I used the pattern "Framed Orphan", for when you have one block left over. It worked perfect for me as I did indeed have that one odd block leftover!!!⤵️This is the front of my Ariel quilt!⤵️
Here's the back!!! I used the pattern, "Every Little Bit", combining a strip of leftover quilt front pieces to create a strip down the back!⤵️
Here's my Chilhowie Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt!⤵️
Here's the back! ⤵️ I used the pattern, "Chunky". This was like doing giant improv sewing! I recommend pressing your fabric pieces and then starting with the largest piece. This is a great way to use fabrics that are a large print and would be lost by cutting them up into smaller pieces. Or for small bits and pieces of stash fabric!
Here's the front of my Strip Twist,⤵️ a recent QAL with Gudrun @ GE Designs:
And here's the back! ⤵️ I used the "Cool Columns" pattern, following this note, "This backing also looks great using rectangles with random lengths."
My National Parks panel quilt ⤵️

And the back, using the "Chunky" pattern again! ⤵️ This is such a great way to use up random pieces of stash!!!
And the back, ⤵️ using a combination of a strip of 4 extra quilt blocks from the front, and the "Chunky" pattern on either side! Clearly, the "Chunky" pattern is a favorite of mine!!! A great use for stalled stash!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you overachiever you! You made SIX beautiful pieced backings for six different quilts and they are all gorgeous. You may never buy yardage for quilt backings again!
ReplyDeleteThe only downside to your pieced backs, Nancy, is only a few show off your stunning quilting. Each one is a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteWow, you’ve made great use of that book already! I love pieced backs, especially when they complement the design and color of the front of the quilt. It makes them so versatile to use and just throw casually over a chair and still be pretty.
ReplyDeleteWonderful backings! I love how you choose the perfect pattern for each and every quilt!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these inspirational quilts , and linking up!
