RSC October

I pieced my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt top together this month. Evidently I didn't plan the quilt math out because it came out quite large--66" x 90"! My throw size quilt goal is around 60" x 80".

I'm thinking of removing two horizontal rows. The blocks I take out can go toward making a baby quilt. I'd like to remove one vertical row but that is a lot more work and would make the quilt rows asymmetrical.
Speaking of baby quilts, I finished 3 this month! Some of these go to family and friends, most go to Bundles of Love, a local charity delivering bundles of newborn baby items to families in need here in Minnesota.
My Quilt Info #1:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Pantograph: Diamond Loops from My Creative Stitches
When making these quilts, I start with a few "hero" blocks that are multi-colored and they might be a novelty print, then add similar colors from my stack of cut rectangles.
Here are a couple of hero prints--a man, woman & child, hearts and hands, as well as a teddy bear print.⤵️
Bells, ⤴️ butterflies ⤵️ and flowers. ⤵️ I don't use more than 2 of a single print, with a total of 30 rectangles.
"Diamond Loops" pantograph. You probably can't tell, but the top thread is a variegated gold. ⤴️ The bobbin is solid gold. ⤵️
My Quilt Info #2:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Pink
Pantograph: Romance from Mistletoe Quilting
I used this pantograph, "Romance" recently on Patty's quilt and wanted to use it again--such a sweet panto! ⤵️
Some of the "hero" prints in this quilt include a Paddington Bear print and a Miss Bunny print! ⤵️ Miss Bunny is Thumper's love interest in the Bambi movie.
Striped binding! 🩷
I recently found this grey buffalo plaid on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $3/yard!!! I took the whole bolt, 8 yards or so. It makes a lovely, soft backing for these baby quilts!!! ⤵️
Putting together pink baby quilts seems easy--I have a lot of pink to choose from!
My Quilt Info #3:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Light Turquoise
Pantograph: Friction from Karlee Porter
These "hero" prints all came from Japan--different popular cartoon characters that are known in Japan.
Yes, including Snoopy,⤵️ who is also well-known in Japan!
I love it when I have the perfect striped fabric in my collection to use as binding!!!⤵️
More of that $3/yard buffalo print flannel! ⤵️ I pre-wash it as flannel shrinks more than regular cotton fabric.
This one is going to my nephew and his wife for their newborn baby boy!
I have a big stack of rectangles cut out for more baby quilts, plus several tops pieced. I just need to find time to quilt and bind them.
Linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge at So Scrappy on Saturday.

  2. Oh how I love that RSC quilt! That Honey Bouquet makes such a pretty quilt. I really like that diamond loops panto and the variegated gold thread - what brand is it? Great score on the buffalo flannel - thanks for the tip about washing it first!

  4. I was gifted a bunch of flannel scraps and began cutting into bricks or this size for Honey Bouquet. I sorted into boys designs, girly designs and baby. I've started assembling them, but some reason they dont look nearly as cohesive as yours always look just right. I'm trying to study your method of choosing prints to put together, and maybe my problem is the limited prints I have based on these are donated scraps. BUT, when I pull from stash I want to have a better plan. Thanks for your inspiration.

  5. I think your RSC quilt is gorgeous. I so love those low volume fabrics you used. Unless you need it to fit a specific size, I would not tamper with removing anything.

  6. Your RSC quilt top turned out beautifully, Nancy! I can see why you might like to make it a bit shorter, though. Those baby quilts are cute as can be! It's fun to look at your hero prints - I especially love the hearts and hands in blue. Sweet finishes!

  8. Your RSC quilt is gorgeous, but yes, two rows would be the right thing to do to make it to size or just have a little larger throw than normal...for those tall folks. I love that you do all these great baby quilts and your formula is perfect. This is a great way to "bust through" the scraps. Love the pantos you used, and I would have wanted to use Romance again. Oh, that green and blue binding I love and used in a quilt or two, stripes are the best for binding!

  9. I can see why you would be tempted to remove two horizontal rows, but I can see the longer quilt as the perfect comfort quilt for a tall teen. It is stunning. Love the variety of black and white fabrics you used for cohesiveness. I do enjoy checking out your pantographs for ideas. Romance is an intriguing continuous line quilting design.

  10. It would be a shame to remove rows from that lovely quilt top, it looks fine to me. I do like the pretty baby rectangle quilts you have completed, would you mind letting me know what size you cut the pieces?

  11. Love that fun RSC quilt, maybe you just need to give it to a tall person! So awesome that you made the baby quilts for BOL. Are you guys back home now?

  12. Three more fun baby quilts. What a find of the Buffalo check flannel! Kudos! I’m having a long talk quilt issue too. Not sure how I’m going to change it. Those rainbow colors require a bit of order to make them sing.
