Farewell 2025. Welcome 2026! Here is a Grace and Peace Quilting review of 2025, and a preview of 2026.
In 2025, I quilted 143 quilts total, 76 for others, and 67 of my own.
1 Queen size quilt
13 Twin/Throw quilts
44 Baby quilts
6 Wall/Mini quilts
3 Table runners
Overall, I have quilted a total of 1,405 quilts on my APQS longarm since it arrive in June, 2012.
This was a difficult year-end for me. My beloved husband of 39 years was in and out of the hospital 8 times starting in mid-May with heart failure. He retired from being a pastor for 39 years in September and we began heart transplant evaluation. He had a stroke but recovered from it 100%. Then he was hospitalized at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and listed as a Level 1 for a heart transplant. Before he got a donor heart, he was called home to the LORD. We were all "shocked and abandoned in deep sorrow", as my Japanese friend said so well.
He was my blog editor, quilt holder, fabric advisor, and biggest cheerleader. It's hard to go on. But I will. My faith, family and friends are carrying me through.
Just one month earlier, my Mom was called home to the LORD. She was 96 and 11 months old. She wrote that she wanted to be remembered as a Christian. She was a professional accordion player, as well as an accordion and piano teacher. She was very creative and loved crafts, cooking and gardening. She said if she could've gone to college, she would've majored in Home Economics. I would say she got her college education through hands on experience.
For a couple years now, I went to my Mom's assisted living home weekly, where Mom, myself and several other women cut out bibs, burb cloths and wash mitts for Bundles of Love, a local non-profit that delivers bundles of baby things to families in need. This was a gathering we all looked forward to every week, spending time together and working on a worthwhile project.
I started out my quilt year by turning my 2024 Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks into 6 butterfly baby quilts. ⤴️
I definitely majored in making baby quilts this year and made 44 of them. I donated many of them to Bundles of Love, as well as some going to family and friends.
In February I participated in an all-day quilt along with Gudrun of GE Designs. Here's my finished quilt, Jolee, from that event.⤵️
In October I participated in a one day virtual retreat, also lead by Gudrun of GE Designs, along with 500+ other quilters from 48 US states and 8 countries around the world. Here's my finished quilt, Margot, from that event.⤵️
I finished my 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt in November. ⤵️ I have several leftover blocks that I am working on to make a baby size version of the same quilt. All year long I worked on the Stripology Quickies Club quilt along. I finished the 12th and final quilt in the series in December. ⤵️ Ten of these quilts were made in 2025.
While sewing this year, I listened to 164 books, via Libby and Hoopla apps, free from our local library. I keep track of my books on Goodreads.⤵️ A favorite author of mine is Gabrielle Meyer with her time-crossers series, "Timeless". There are 6 books in the series with a 7th coming out in May, 2026.
Here are my quilt plans for 2026:
~I will be doing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again.
~I will be working through the Stripology Lil' Pattern Club.
~I will be joining the Stripology Virtual Retreat in March.
~I will continue my longarm business of quilting for others.
Below, ⤵️ and the photo at the top of this blog post, is a Christmas/New Years card I received this year from my friend, Setsuko in Japan. A blessed New Year to you.
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

ReplyDeleteAww Nancy I think of you every day. You have such strength, and it much be a challenge to keep going. How neat that your Mom played the accordion, she looks like such a dear. Love the photos of Mahlon - you look so happy together. Btw I love your hair!
ReplyDeleteSo my favorite quilt is still the RSC one, but I love them all and especially the GE Designs ones. You are so prolific. I wish you peace and comfort and continued successful quilt-making in 2026!

So fun to see all your great creations this year. I love seeing your plans for this year, too. I can't imagine how hard these last few months have been, both mom and husband gone at the same time is just so hard. You and your family remain in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your two significant losses in 2025, Nancy - such hard things to go through. I'm glad you have friends, family, and faith to help you through these times. Your quilts are beautiful and I know your customers love the work you do for them, too. And last, but not least- that is an amazing amount of books to have listened to this year! May 2026 be kind and bring you lots of fabric to sew with!
ReplyDeleteSending you big hugs and continuing to pray for you after losing your precious Mom and sweet Husband. May your fond memories and continued faith give you peace. You had an amazing year of quilting and reading. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish in 2026. Hugs, Jeanna
ReplyDeleteOh Nancy, I had been praying and thinking about you since you shared about your husband a few months ago. I will continue to pray for you as you walk through this truly difficult time. I hope that quilting, friends, and your faith help you find the next best step forward each day. Sending you love, peace, and wishes for joy in 2026. Thanks so much for linking up.
ReplyDeleteYour productivity is astounding! I haven't even been in my sewing studio for at least 4 months, maybe more, with the exception of finishing up some tote bags for my sisters. My goal in 2026 is definitely to sew more! Your Mom looks like such a sweet and talented lady...thanks for sharing the photos! You are always on my heart, Nancy! You make a great role model for me! Just keep picturing yourself in the palm of the Lord! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful goals made and met. I like your plans foe 2026. Hope that you are finding peace on the good days and that you give yourself grace on the other days. Wishing you a 2026 full of memories and good works.
ReplyDeleteWhat a year you have had Nancy. Hoping you can feel the love and admiration flowing your way from your many friends around the globe, and that it will help to comfort and sustain you. May 2026 be a year of peace, health, and joy for you and your family. (Missy V.)
ReplyDeleteYou definitely had two very big losses in 2025. I lost my husband unexpectedly at the end of 2022, and i know what a blow it is. I pray 2026 will be a good year for you. You finished an incredible number of quilts, and they are beautiful—kudos on that! Of the ones you’ve shown here, I think the 2025 RSC quilt is my fave!
ReplyDeleteIs it amazing how we can lose ourselves in our work/craft even more so during hardships? The year 2025 was a hard one to get through but you did. May the sun shines brighter in 2026 and dries the tears. May Health, Joy and Peace find their way to your doorstep daily. 🙏🥰 ;^)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your mom. What an interesting household you grew up in! Do you play either the accordion or piano? Maybe you play them both? With each day that passes, you must be missing your sweet husband. Like Chantal, I echo that health, joy and peace live with you every day.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteIt's so difficult to lose even one of those 2 loved ones, but to lose both so close together is a challenge. I hope your faith, friends, family - and creative outlets - all help you heal. I'm amazed at how many quilts you quilted last year, including your own. Great job! Looking forward to seeing how those new goals play out this year.
ReplyDeleteOh, Nancy. My heart aches for you, losing your mother and your beloved husband in rapid succession. I lost my mom this past July and my husband has heart issues similar to your husband's, I think? I cannot imagine the enormity of loss you must be experiencing right now. If it wasn't for faith, this grief could crush your soul completely. Lifting you and your family in prayer.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry for the loss of your husband and your mom. Your quilts are outstanding! They all are awesome but if we could choose our most favorite, mine would be the one with the white background with black text in betweeb the 9 patches. I am very inspired to make my own rendition. I hope that is ok. I am thinking family recipes printed on fabric for the background fabrics.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful year of quilting, but a hard year for loss. May 2026 be a year of recovery and peace for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the loss of your husband. Praying that this year holds a lot of happiness and quilting for you.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, my deepest sympathies on your double loss of your husband and mother in the same year. They sound like very special people. Love how they were both entwined with your quilting life.
ReplyDeleteI am blown away by the statistics of how many quilts you made and/or quilted. Since you share your work, I know everyone is a master piece. Ditto for the books. I, too, am a Libby audio reader. I don't keep track, but figure I go through 2.5 books per week. They make a nice accompaniment to chain piecing and repetitive quilting.
Unbelievable numbers, Nancy! How can a person make that many quilts?! Superwoman, I'd say. I'm very glad for you to be skilled at longarm quilting, and able to quilt for others as well as yourself. Very impressive. It's apparent you get great satisfaction from Gudrun's patterns and retreats, and I'm happy for you about that too. But, I'm also sad for you... for your losses in 2025. I pray you are coping okay, moving forward, and finding activities in which to engage. Apparently reading is a big thing. I was happy with my year's total, but you win the prize for sure! I've not set up a Goodreads account, but track books read on my own. I appreciate your Gabriel Meyer author recommendation and will be sure to look for her titles. Wishing you a 2026 that's better than 2025 - full of blessings and contentment.
ReplyDeleteNancy, you have suffered major loss of loved ones this year and also accomplished major quilting goals for yourself and others. I don't know how you get it all in and I sure feel like a slacker. I enjoy following your posts and my heart cries for your losses. Our great God will carry you through. I feel blessed by the people he puts in our path of life. What joy.
ReplyDeleteNancy, just curious ... is your AQS LA comperized or is your quilting all hand guided?
ReplyDeleteI'm exhausted just reading about all your finishes in 2025! Wonderful quilts. Sorry for your losses. My heart goes out to you, Nancy, and I hope 2026 brings lot sunshine and warmth into your life. Great plans for the new year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great creative year you've had. Your numbers are so impressive. Your personal life ~~not great. Hugs to you with hope you can continue to be strong. I didn't realize you lost your mother also. She sounds like she was a spunky gal playing and teaching the accordion. You don't hear about many accordion players anymore. I sure hope making quilts helps you get through the days and months ahead.
ReplyDeleteOh, Nancy, my heart breaks for you. I'm so sorry for the losses of your husband and mom. On the quilty side, you have made so many beautiful quilts and have plans for so much more quilty fun!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your losses last year, both so close together is really hard. Lots of lovely quilts and other wothwhile projects completed last year. Hope this year is full of love, recovery and productivity.
ReplyDeleteI knew about Mahlon, but didn't know about your Mom, Nancy. This has definitely been a hard year for you. But, you have kept up with all the quilting and making the quilts well. Continued prayers for you and your family. Wishing you much success in the coming year and comfort as a new chapter of your life begins. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Have a great week. Hugs and prayers.
ReplyDeleteWow that is incredibly productive year in terms of the number of quilts. I didn't know it was possible to make that many! Jolee is my favorite. So sorry for your losses this year, Nancy. I hope this year is free from worry and full of love.
ReplyDeleteOh Holee Buckets = what a beautiful, amazing, heartbreaking year you have had - and yet - you have persisted in continuing to bless others with your time and your talent.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how you got so many things done with so much heartbreak in your 2025. Apparently quilting really can be therapy. I hope you can find a way to remember your "heart people" while continuing to live a joyous, full life. And I look forward to new blog posts from you and to be inspired by all your productivity. Big virtual hug! xo
ReplyDeleteIt has been a very difficult year for you and your family, Nancy. Yet in the midst of all the heartache, you created so many lovely quilts, many of which will bring much joy and comfort to others. I hope 2026 is a year of healing and comfort for you, and many more beautiful quilts!
