This is one of my oldest UFOs (UnFinished Objects), finally finished! πΊπΈ I love how the blocks look like flags flying in the wind!
Size: 59" x 84"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% White Cotton
Thread: Glide--Linen
The beginnings of this quilt was a homemade patriotic jelly roll I won at a guild meeting--someone had cut it from their yardage. I started making a QOV quilt for my Dad, a WW2 veteran. When Dad was called home to the LORD on January 11, 2019, I stalled. I recently opened the project box and, wanting to reclaim the box, I got to work on this quilt.
You may notice that the white background fabrics don't all match! I ran out of the white, which is a shade of Kona, in the project box and started pulling more white from my collection. I typically longarm quilt in the daytime and sew at night. Working at night, I didn't notice the different shades of white! For the most part the different shades of white aren't noticeable, although I'm sure noticing it in some of these photos. But quilts are historically made from scraps, making do with what you have, so I'm okay with it.
I had a flag panel that I used on the back, along with two other flag prints. ⤵️
Below is a single block. ⤵️ The original pattern was written for 3 1/2" strips. I redid the pattern for 2 1/2" strips. I'll give you the basic instructions here.
Cut 2 strips of the patriotic fabric at 2 1/2" x 6 1/2". Cut 2 white 2 1/2" squares and 2 white 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips. Sew diagonally across the corners. The finished block size is 4" x 8". The blocks are staggered from row to row.
I'm very glad to finish this UFO. But, guess what--that project box is still pretty full of patriotic fabrics! It's going to take more quilt making to empty out that project box!!!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy
