Two quilts, two quilters and a lilac tree.
Quilt Info #1:
Maker: Missy
Pattern: Trip Around the World from Laundry Basket Quilts
Size: 54" x 62"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton
Thread: Glide--Graphite
Missy used some lovely William Morris fat quarter prints for her Trip Around the World. The feather quilting shows up best on this photo.⤵️
She used this "Strawberry Thief" William Morris print for backing. It's a favorite of hers and she has used it for backing before. It is gorgeous. She matched the seam on the back so well that it doesn't show. Missy shared her instructions with me on how to match a pieced seam, and I, in turn, wrote a tutorial here.
Beautiful finish and fun that Missy did a virtual class with one of her favorite quilt designers!
Quilt Info #2:
Maker: Karen
Pattern: Carpenter's Star by Debbie Maddy
Size: 71" x 71"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton
Thread: Glide--Cream
Swirls and stars quilting. Plus a flannel back makes it super soft. ⤵️
Very pretty! And great use of Karen's "collection".
This is the tree part. St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the last church my husband served as pastor, held a tribute to him on Sunday. They planted a lilac tree and made a special plaque in his memory. The Sunday School children sang, there were stories, poems and prayers. It was a lovely tribute.❤️✝️ I'm pictured here with some of the Sunday School children.⤵️
Grace and peace, Nancy

The quilts are lovely. Trip Around The World always looks good, but this choice of fabric is a delight.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing the Carpenter's Star and seeing how the fabric is used. This is a lovely example.
Planting the lilac tree is a delightful memorial to your husband and the plaque is very special.
I love Trip Around the World quilts, and this one is really pretty - William Morris is always a great choice! Wow on the Carpenter Star - it's stunning! You did them both good with your quilting!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad for the tribute to your husband. Was he fond of lilac trees?
Love the feather quilting on the first quilt. You have some really good quilts to work with as they always look so perfect when you show them on your longarm. Did you get to pick what tree they planted for your husband?
ReplyDeleteI love that Trip quilt, and the Star is so vibrant! How special to have a memory of his service to the church. May it bloom forever.
ReplyDeleteI adore lilacs! What a lovely tribute to your husband. The customer quilts this week are so pretty! You always do such an excellent job quilting them. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

The lilac tree planting is a wonderful tribute to your husband, Nancy! It will be a sweet reminder of his love and service. Both of those quilts are beauties - they are both designs I want to make when I see them. Need to put them on my list!
ReplyDeleteThe lilac tree is a lovely memorial to your husband, it will bring joy everyone in the years to come when it blooms. Both of the quilts are so pretty, your quilting enhances them as always.
ReplyDeleteThe lilac is such a lovely memorial for Mahlon! (And how wonderful that your church has Sunday school kids, plural. Our congregation is aging.) Quilt on!!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilts, and I love the quilting.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tribute to your husband, a living tree is precious! Quilts are awesome as always!!
ReplyDeleteThose two quilts are lovely, as you always make them. As for the remembrance for Mahlon... that's super-special. I'm so glad the congregation and children honored his service this way, with a lilac tree. I don't think I've ever heard of a lilac "tree," only shrubs/bushes. Certainly it will be beautiful, with a heavenly scent, as it blooms each spring. No doubt you were touched by their remembrance. I'm glad for you.
ReplyDeleteNancy, your quilting is spectacular on these lovely quilts. What a special tribute your church gave in honor of Mahlon’s servant leadership of them.
ReplyDeleteNancy, the lilac and plaque are beautiful ways to honor Mahlon and his years of service to his church. Thank you for sharing this. There is just nothing sweeter than the fragrance of a lilac (or the voices of children).
ReplyDeleteYour quilting is perfection as always! Trip Around the World was fun, and I love the Carpenter’s Star pattern too and am inspired to dive into my stash and make that one too.
An update on matching prints - I have discovered the wonder of using a fabric glue stick! Happy to share details!!
Thanks again for your beautiful quilting!
Beautiful quilting! What a fun memory to have of a treasured designer that Missy now has! Lilacs have such a wonderful fragrance. How wonderful that Mahlon was honored this way!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts as usual from you. And a lilac is such a wonderful memorial tree for your husband. I can still remember the smell of the lilac tree from our yard in Wayzata when I was a little girl, and I haven't smelled it in 45 years. Can't get lilacs to grow down here in the South, not sure if it's the climate zone or the clay soil or a combination of the two. It's nice to see you in the picture with the Sunday school kids, too. Sending you a big hug.
ReplyDeleteNancy, it must have been just over 60 years ago that my mother taught me how to match seams. Her method was less intuitive and possibly more complex than the one you learned from Missy. Love when a method makes total sense and is easily repeatable. Now I won't have to shy away from large print backings. What a lovely tribute to your husband.
ReplyDeleteI love Missy's trip around the world and that she took a class with Edyta! Strawberry thief is a favorite print of mine, and I love many of the William Morris prints. Karen's carpenter star is gorgeous and the flannel is perfect - and who can argue with interstellar as a quilting design. The lilac tree is a beautiful tribute to Mahlon, and I am sure the service and celebration of his life was touching.
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are so pretty, and your quilting makes them even more so! That backing for the TRW quilt is fantastic! What a lovely thing for the church family to do in Mahlon's memory!
ReplyDeleteOooh, the ceremony in honor of your sweet husband is beautiful, what a lovely tribute from them. Great choice with the lilac tree, a very meaningful symbol of love. I love your quilting on both quilts too, thank you for sharing your work and tutorial and linking up.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to your husband. I love the idea of a tree - he will be remembered forever
