On Tuesday, June 16th, I shipped my 30 baby quilts! Their first stop is in Washington state, then Canada, and on to Tokyo, Japan, where they will be displayed in memory of my husband. Their final destination will be to families in Cambodia this fall. I felt great joy to finish, pack, pray for and see these quilts off!
These are the final three quilts of the 30, finished last week. Every quilt has a story, so let me tell you about these.
My Quilt Info #1:
Size: 41" x 50"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Thyme
These two charms packs coordinated so nicely with each other. Then my daughter, who arranged them for me, found 15 random charms squares in my extras bin that fit right in!
Jungle leaves seemed like just the quilting for this quilt! BTW, this flannel backing is yellow.
I love how this came out!My Quilt Info #2:
Pattern: 99 Charms
Size: 41" x 50"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Lightning
Like a lot of quilters, I love a striped binding, and this one came from Japan, as well.
See that print in the bottom righthand corner, the goldfish? ⤴️ It glows in the dark! I didn't know that until I had sewn it into another quilt and the family noticed it was glowing in the dark!
"Ananda Fans" quilting gives a sashiko feeling, to go with the Japanese fabrics. Grey flannel back.
My Quilt Info #3:
Pattern: 99 Charms
Size: 41" x 50"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Blush
This is another quilt made from two different, but color coordinated, charm packs from Joyfully_Tracie!
It turned out so cute!!!
Pink gingham check flannel for the back, and light pink Grunge for the binding!
The "Honey Honey" quilting is just so sweet, as well!
They were finished and out the door pretty quick!
Here are a few details on the packing, in case you ever need to pack and ship quilts. Vacuum-sealed storage bags did the trick for me! I bought them at the Dollar Tree and put 3 quilts per bag (mostly!). I was able to get 22 quilts in a large, sturdy "Chewy" box, if you're familiar with those, and the other 8 quilts in a smaller box.
"Pirate Ship" website is the place to get the best deal on shipping. It sounds suspicious, but it has legitimate discounted shipping rates. UPS was one-half to one-third the price of USPS. It takes a few more days (3, in this case) but well worth the savings.
My daughter took this photo on May 8th, with the quilts I had finished at that time, draped over my longarm.
Thanks for following along so far on this "30 quilts to Cambodia" trip. I'll keep you updated as the trip continues!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy
