I did have some trouble with the stitches skipping when I was stitching the laminated fabric. The best solution I could find, after changing the sewing machine needle, was to stitch very slowly and go back and forward 4 or 5 stitches at a time.
I found the Kaffe Fasset laminated fabric, used on the bottom, at our local fabric warehouse, SR Harris, about 2 years ago.
I used some woven gingham fabric for the lining. It's heavier than quilting cotton. ⤵️
Photographed here with one of two tomato plants DD2 is growing this year! ⤵️

You certainly found some beautiful fabric for your bag. It's lovely and will be useful too. Gudrun has certainly been energetic inspiring many! I didn't sew the bag but thought the instruction was good. Enjoy all that fun Kaffe fabric!
ReplyDeletePretty bag, great job.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great use of those fabrics. Adorable bag. I didn't hear about this SAL. If she hosts another on a quilt would you let me know, I might be interested;)
ReplyDeleteGudrun is doing another QAL--a quilt, on August 16th! She's going to announce what the quilt pattern is on Tuesday this week, August, 4.
DeleteWhat a useful bag that will be for you, Nancy. Nice job (and sorry you had some trouble with the laminated fabric!)
ReplyDeleteGosh that’s a cute bag! Nice fabric. I’m really fond of gingham. And the purple handles!! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI’ve never sewn laminated fabric. Vinyl in various bags sometimes gave me trouble, sometimes not!
Your bag is so pretty, and so useful since it is laminated. Those tomatoes look great! I have one tomato plant and two pepper plants this year.
ReplyDeleteYour bag is beautiful and a good size, too. Great finish!
ReplyDeleteI expect that you will get a lot of mileage out of that bag, Nancy. Love the bright, happy colors. Did you use a teflon foot while stitching the laminate?
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bag! It's been a while since I've sewn with laminate fabric, but Wendy is right...a teflon foot is amazing for that!
ReplyDeleteYour bag is beautiful, almost too pretty to use.
ReplyDeleteThis bag is fabulous, Nancy! I didn't even know there was such a thing out there as laminated Kaffe Fassett fabric. I wonder where I could find some? Because that opens up ALL KINDS of fun possibilities!!
ReplyDeletePretty and useful bag... Looks like it really will work well for carrying quilts. I think I better check out the next qal. Not that I need to start anything else new! But you never know what might catch my eye!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on your Instagram page and loved it! Your selection of colors is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt does look great. Love the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty bag. Love all those bright fabrics. I am sure you have a lot of quilts to carry and this tote will get a good workout :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty and bright Nancy - and so useful too! I am glad to have your helpful hints about sewing on the laminated fabric too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bag, with gorgeous fabrics! Fun to have a big enough bag to carry quilts!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
