Brick Quilt

Quilt Info:
Maker: Me!!!
Fabrics: Sunshine Soul from Create Joy Project
Size: 52" X 84"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Request
Thread: Glide--Linen
Quilting: El's and E's ⤵️ from Basic Shapes Collection @ Quiltable
With Sherpa fabric on the back, it's important to have an open quilting design, not too dense. ⤴️⤵️
Interesting Info: I received 16 Fat Eighths and a pattern from my Quilting Cousin Sue at Christmas! I cut all the fabrics into "bricks" of 8 1/2" x 4 1/2". I added 16 "blenders" to make a throw size quilt, for a total of 130 bricks and 13 half bricks.
I didn't use the pattern that came with these fabrics, but I have plans to use that pattern for the upcoming "Get On Board With Sewing" blog hop, scheduled for September 1st through 7th!!! Come back then to see the pattern and the special fabrics I use!
Self-binding⤴️: After quilting, trim excess batting off, cut backing 1 1/2" from edge of quilt top, fold over twice and machine stitch it down. Easy peasy!!!
Sherpa is super soft as backing!!! Plus it is 60" wide!
Thanks, Sue!!! A super colorful and cuddly quilt!!!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  1. It's good to see such a fun, scrappy quilt again. I have made numerous ones like this, using bricks. However, I called them "loaves" and each was 3-1/2" X 6-1/2". Such a size is a good way to use up donated fabrics. You backed this quilt with such a nice fabric. I've never used it, but it looks cuddly. Very nicely done!

  2. The first thing I noticed was the furry binding even before reading a single word! It looks like a great snuggling with a book quilt:)

  3. This one did take a hold and have you make it, didn't it! I love the colors, the quilting pattern and the use of the sherpa. It is a fun thing to work with and the self binding is perfect!

  6. That's such pretty fabric! The simple design really showcases it, too. I haven't heard of Sherpa, but guessing it must be like Minkee or Cuddle. It definitely looks soft and cuddly!

  9. I just love simple quilts like these. And what a great way to use up fabric scraps. I always think of 10” and 5” squares, but these rectangles make a nice change. I’ve got lots of donated fabric, because people know I make crib quilts for the Christ Child Society, and this would be a good way to use up some of it.

  11. Ooh, how fun! I've never used Sherpa as quilt backing and I'm not familiar with it. Is it just a really beefy, thicker version of Minky? Thanks for explaining how you wrapped the backing around to the front to finish the edges.

  12. That is a beauty! I love bricks for a change from squares. I read somewhere that the quilting pattern you did was called L and E. I think it looks terrific on this quilt.

  14. I haven’t heard of Dream quilts - drop everything and make it! But I sure have done this. I really like your bricks quilt, and the binding method looks super easy.

  16. Yes quilt is going to be so snuggly and warm this winter. I am so glad you’ve made it for yourself. What happy fabrics those are. I’ve used Sherpa on a quilt once without batting and really liked the final result. I really like your idea of using the Sherpa for the binding as well; must do that next time. Thanks for linking up with DrEAMi! This was what I like to call a quintessential one because you literally were grabbed and did not stop until it was done.
