2 RSC🌈Finishes

I finished my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts for 2023!!!
Quilt Info #1:
Maker: Me!
Size: 64" x 77"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Signature--Tie Dye Variegated, Glide--Putty in bobbin
Pantograph: Ananda Fan ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Quilting
I love the texture of "Ananda Fan"!!! And the variegated thread worked great, once I got the tension working for me!

The 2nd row, 5th square in, on the block below ⤵️ is "Mini Moni", a Japanese teenage girls band from around the year 2000! My girls, like all young girls in Japan, were crazy for them at the time!
Interesting Info: I sent a photo of this quilt to DD2 who is off in college--she said it looks Japanese!!! I went through and tallied it up--38% of all the squares in this first quilt were fabrics bought in Japan! Interesting that she would recognize that!!!
I did my new favorite for the backing--I pieced together 20 fat quarters!⤵️
Ananda Fan shows up as great texture on the back, too!!!⤵️
First RSC quilt of 2023 done!✅
Quilt Info #2:
Maker: Me!
Size: 65" x 78"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Signature--Tie Dye Variegated, Glide--Chestnut in bobbin
Pantograph: Contour Cocoon ⤵️ from Karlee Porter
Contour Cocoon pantograph!!!⤴️⤵️
The Signature Tie-Dyed Variegated thread especially shows up on the black borders!⤵️
I did it again--20 fat quarters pieced together for backing!⤵️
Interesting Info: I did my first 2023 RSC quilt in a diagonal rainbow wash style. I decided to do this second one in random order.⤵️ I tallied up the Japanese fabrics in this quilt--28%! I'm not sure how there came to be a 10% difference in the two quilts!!!
Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2023 quilt number 2 finished!!!✅
In 2022, I went through my scrap basket of various width strips. See my 7 finished quilts here.

This year I hit the 2 1/2" scrap squares box. I'm not sure what I'll do next year, but I will be doing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again! If you're thinking about it, jump right in! The Saturday link parties are full of inspiration, atSo Scrappy!!!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  1. Those turned out so fun, I like that you put the skinny black sashing in to separate the blocks. It makes them more fun to look at than just block after block.

  2. Oh, look at those, Nancy! They're gorgeous! I like the narrow black sashing, too - both the planned diagonal layout and the random one. Your quilting always adds so much, as well. Congratulations on your finishes!

  3. They are gorgeous! I love that you counted up the squares to figure out the % of Japanese fabrics after your daughter's comments. You have used up a lot of your Japanese fabrics since I have been watching, so I am not surprised it is less than you think - and maybe some of the colors are less prominent in the fabrics you did collect. Gorgeous quilts....I think I will try this year joining RSC! It is nice to whittle it down...oh and using the FQs for the back is brilliant.

  4. I love the quilting on these quilts, perfect! I've be thinking about what projects to do for RSC next year. I think simple patchwork blocks work the best. I need to reduce the 2" strip box so that's what I'll use. Happy stitching!

  11. Two awesome quilts! I may have my new leader/ender project idea though I'm still needing to do another two (or ten) string RSC quilts. I have one of my RSC 2023 quilts done and gifted, two more to get done in December.

  18. Wow - both such pretty finishes! I really love that narrow black sashing. It's just enough to make the colors pop but still gives the eye somewhere to rest. Great choice!

  21. Wonderful finishes! It's fun to have some special fabrics in there, like this cute Mini Moni, ;) I love both layouts. The Ananda Fan reminds me of rising suns, it's a beautiful pattern, more interesting than regular fans, and the variegated thread looks good!
I love your backings too, and how you keep them straight, well aligned with the binding!
Thank you for sharing your inspiring work, and linking up.

  22. Two finished RSC quilts in 2023. Wow! Congratulations. Both are beautiful. Piecing fat quarters for the back is both fast and great a way to stash bust. A nice tie in with the RSC.

  26. Well thanks A LOT Nancy! As if I don't have enough to do, now I have to put making something beautiful with my rainbow scraps on my to do list! :-D Seriously though, this is stunning, I love the colour blocks. What a sweet way to use scraps.
What is also funny is that my daughter works for the RSC (the Shakespeare theatre place in Stratford on Avon) so when I first saw this over at Handmade Monday I thought it had a Shakespeare connection!

  27. Very nice finishes. I still need to finish my turquoise blocks... Congrats on keeping up with the program. I am on the fence about continuing the RSC. Perhaps if I picked easier blocks I would be able to keep up better. I like how you've used a whole slew of 2.5" squares. Do you precut to that size?

  28. They're beautiful!! Congratulations.

  29. What colorful, pretty quilts, Nancy! I'm always amazed at what you finish through the year. I love your Japanese fabrics, too (fun that your daughter would recognize them). I might have to try RSC in 2024 - you make it look like so much fun! What are you going to do with all that empty space from those 40 fat quarters now? LOL
