2 Quilts ㊁

Two quilts by two talented quilters!!!
Quilt Info #1:
Maker: Susan
Size: 40" x 48"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Deluxe
Thread: Glide--Light Olive
Pantograph: Benay's Herringbone ⤵️ from Urban Elementz
Susan wanted a quick quilt for a baby that is about to arrive! She did her go-to strippy quilt!!!
This quilt is for a baby boy. Susan was going for the woodland animals theme. Together we decided on a texture look for quilting.
The backing is a twill flannel. Cute quick quilt!!!
Quilt Info #2:
Maker: Karen
Pattern: Best Friends from Sandi Irish of Irish Chain
Size: 82" x 94"
Batting: Quilters Dream Wool
Thread: Glide--Light Olive
Pantograph: Christmas ⤵️ from Dastardly Quilt Studio
This pantograph, called "Christmas", gives a tossed look of poinsettias, berries and holly leaves. Wool batting keeps a large quilt lighter weight, warmer and adds definition to the quilting.
All the edges on this quilt are on the bias. Karen followed the suggestion of the pattern maker and added fusible interfacing around the edges, to keep stretching at a minimum.⤵️ Brilliant idea! By the way, the pattern maker is Sandi Irish, my coworker at the local quilt shop (closed down November, 2024.)
Karen reports this is the most difficult quilt she has made. It turned out beautifully!!!
Fabulous quilts!!!

  1. I am so drawn to the Christmas quilt, that look of log cabins and the colors! The use of the yellow really makes it all pop - it's gorgeous. I had a peek at the pattern. It requires templates, and if Karen thought it was difficult, it would be next to impossible for me, so I guess I'll just admire hers - lol! Love, love that Christmas quilting. That is a precious baby quilt too. I'll have to look for twill flannel.

  2. The first quilt is similar in colors to one I am making for a new baby for a yoga friend! I love the pantograph, but hardly a time when I don't like what is chosen. The Christmas quilt is gorgeous and the stabilizing of the edges is perfect. Love the holiday pantograph, too, if I ever make a Christmas quilt!

  3. Happy Wednesday, Nancy. Well these are 2 fabulous quilts! The strippy quilt is a great baby quilt . Love all of the animals. And the Christmas quilt is stunning. I think I would have to leave it out year round. You always do such a beautiful job on the quilting. Have a blessed day. Hugs.

  8. Brilliant idea about using the fusible around the outer edge to "encourage" the edge to not stretch. Beautiful finishes!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects

  13. Lovely finishes.
I do enjoy the strippy design when working with lovely fabrics. It saves cutting them into small pieces and losing the cuteness of the design. This is a lovely baby gift.
The diamond log cabins are stunning. I can see how tricky that could be when stitching and quilting. But I do love the end result.

  14. Ooh fun! Where to begin? I see you are using the Deluxe Loft Cotton batting from Quilters Dream. I love that one and find that I reach for the throw quilt I made from Deluxe more often than the others with Select loft. Even in Florida — if there’s a chill from air conditioning and I want to snuggle up at all, I want the Deluxe snuggle! Simple piecing that lets the cute novelty prints do the heavy lifting is a great idea for baby quilts in a time crunch. And the red and green is wonderful with that warm yellow gold for a Christmas quilt. I don’t know why but that particular shade of yellow is my favorite accent for Christmas colors. Maybe it’s the yellow of candle flames seared into my nostalgia from vintage Christmas cards, gift wrap etc but it just seems like that “goes” to me for some reason. And yes, that fusible interfacing would be helpful with lots of other patterns that have bias grain along the outside edges of the quilt top.

  15. What a great idea to add fusible interfacing to a bias edge. Hopefully I remember that suggestion next time I have a bias edge. Always fun to see what your clients give you and how you finish the quilts for them.

  16. I always love seeing the motifs you choose for your quilting! And what a wonderful idea to add the fusible interfacing to the biased edges of the quilt. I'll have to remember that! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
