Baby👶Quilts

One of my favorite parts of quilting is cutting fabric up! Especially nowadays, with large 60mm rotary cutters and the Stripology Ruler for making cutting fabric fast and fun!!! I went through some of my scraps recently and cut them up. I'm using my favorite Villa Rosa Designs pattern--Honey Bouquet, and have downsized it here to baby quilt size.
Quilt Info #1:
Size:36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream--frankenbatting
Thread: Glide--Mint
Pantograph: Geo Highlight ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Pantos
This quilt is a combo of "character" fabrics from Japan, plus blenders. Some of the characters include "Shinkansen", a bullet train, and "Miffy", a simple, sweet bunny by Dick Bruna, a Dutch artist. ⤵️
"Kerokerokeroppi" is an adventurous frog and his friends! ⤵️ Kero kero is the sound frogs make in Japanese--ribbit ribbit in English!
This is "Anpanman" ⤵️, a Japanese superhero for young children. His head is a Japanese sweet bun. He's the character jumping rope below and he has a bat and ball further below. His friends include Uncle Jam, Butter Girl, Cheese, Curry Bun Man, Bread Head, Melon Girl, and more! The bad guys are Bacteria Man in black & purple with horns, and his sidekick, Dokin-chan, a selfish, demanding girl, wearing orange and a single horn, sitting on a bench below. These characters have been around Japan since 1973.
Below is "Tenorikuma" translates as "bears that fit in your palm". They are 5 red pandas that run a coffee shop. ⤵️
Navy binding + label ⤵️ A little Snoopy in there, too!

This was my first time to use this pantograph, "Geo Highlight".⤵️ More on that with the next quilt below.

Quilt Info #2:

I started this quilt with two strawberry prints and coordinated the rest of the fabrics with those.

I downsized the quilting, "Geo Highlight", this time around.⤵️ I do prefer denser quilting. I might try it even smaller next time.
Finished strawberry quilt!
I used a 3.25 yard cut of fabric from IKEA for the backing. It comes 60" wide, which is super handy. The cut cloth is enough for 2 1/2 baby quilt backings. The quilting also shows up distinctly on the solid grey color.

Here's a comparison of the quilting size on these two quilts.⤵️
I have plenty more of these scraps cut out and arranged. I'll be putting them together as time permits. Some will go to babies in my family and friends circle, as the need arises, and some will go to Bundles of Love, where bundles of hand made newborn baby items are given to Minnesota families in need.
These are my first two! Watch for more of these scrappy baby quilts as my time allows!

  1. I do enjoy my Stripology ruler! I asked my husband for it for my birthday last year. Some quilting friends used it when we had a "friends time away quilting retreat." They said I should get a commission as they each bought one when they got home. 😊

  2. Both of those quilts are so perfect! Did you resize the cuts or just use less of them than the pattern?
