RSC September

I've been working on piecing my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt top together, as well as a few scrappy baby quilts this month!
First off, my RSC quilt. Last month I worked on the white with black background squares. This month I filled in the 9-patches I've been making all year long. Once they were on the design wall I was not happy with the darker blocks. Here are the original blocks on the design wall:
I was trying for light and bright, but a bunch of them came out dark looking. I started by remaking the purple blocks, replacing them with light purple blocks. After making 9 new light purple blocks I had the following: ⤵️
At that point I decided that was as much redo that I wanted to do!!! The rejected blocks went to my friend, Lynn, who makes charity quilts, as did all the cut off snowball corners.
I did get the top pieced together. ⤴️ My goal is to get this quilted before the end of the year.

I also enjoy working on scrappy baby quilts in my spare evenings. I have a big stack of scraps that I've cut into the prescribed size for the Honey Bouquet pattern by Villa Rosa Designs, my favorite VRD pattern! It takes me one episode of Wagon Train to piece one top together!
I finished 4 baby quilts this month! I donate them to Bundles of Love, a local charity delivering bundles of newborn baby items to families in need.

Quilt Info #1:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Mango
Pantograph: Loopy Link ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Quilting
When I set these up on my design wall, I pick one or two multi-colored prints and then coordinate colors that go with those "hero prints".
Because there are only 30 rectangles in the entire quilt, I use each print once or twice at the most.
The backing is a grey muslin fabric from IKEA. I love how the quilting shows up on it!!!
Quilt Info #2:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Blush
Pantograph: Strawberry Champagne ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Quilting
I love strawberry prints! Whenever I use a strawberry print in my quilts, my go-to panto is "Strawberry Champagne"!
There are strawberries in the top row, 2nd from the left fabric, and 3rd row, 2nd from the right fabric, in case you're wondering where the strawberries are! ⤵️
Quilt Info #3:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Pink
Pantograph: Floral Garden ⤵️ from Karlee Porter
Such a pretty panto! "Floral Garden" ⤵️
Quilt Info #4:
Size: 36" x 45"
Pattern: Honey Bouquet from Villa Rosa Designs
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Tar Heel
Pantograph: Basic Swirl ⤵️ from Urban Elementz
I've been doing a lot of swirl quilting this month, on Missy's quilts and Bonnie's quilts! I couldn't resist swirling again--swirls look great on any quilt! ⤵️
I pieced together some leftover strips of that IKEA grey muslin, which is why you're seeing a dark line below. ⤵️ It doesn't bother me--just thought I'd mention it in case you noticed!
This is the only one of my baby quilts that fits this month colors--light and bright blue and green. What can I say--I love working with a variety of colors with these baby quilts every month!
It's interesting to note that Bundles of Love mainly make gender specific bundles, as in most cases the baby is just born when they receive their bundle. So the Bundles of Love packers sort out all items, including quilts, for boys or girls right from the beginning.
Linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge at So Scrappy on Saturday.

  3. I'm always happy to see your snowball quilt, as I have "good intentions" of making it myself. I love the background text fabric, it just makes the quilt sing for me. I keep forgetting there are 9-patch blocks in it!
That Honey Bouquet pattern makes really nice quilts. Reminds me a bit of a Big Block pattern I bought a few years ago but haven't made. I like your tip on starting with a couple "hero prints". Your quilting on these is so pretty!!

  11. I think your little Honey Bouquet quilts look more gender neutral. I should be doing this pattern. They are so colorful and I made so many little quilts for donation. Ahhh, wagon train, thanks for the memories ......... barely. Is the show being streamed anywhere? I'm sure DH would enjoy watching some episodes.

  12. Well done getting the stars together, even with a redo. Lovely to meet the scrap challenge finish.
And lovely work on all the baby quilts. The Honey Bouquet design works so well with all the different fabrics. I think I bought that pattern after you had shown it another time. I must get it out and use it.
You always finish your quilts off so well with the quilting designs you choose.
    Great finishes all round.

  23. Your RSC is just gorgeous, Nancy. I can’t wait to see how you’ll quilt it! Your donation quilts are always so thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed that they look like they came from an expensive baby boutique, not at all “charity vibes.” What wonderful gifts they are to those who receive them!
