My three closest friends are all quilters and all three have birthdays in June! Here's what I made for them this year.
My Quilt Info:
Size: 7" x 9"
Batting: Quilters Dream Poly
Thread: Glide--Cream
Pantograph: Frolic ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Quilting
This is one of several hymn panels that came printed together. "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" was a favorite hymn of my husband's. We sang it at his Celebration of Life service.
Here's a beautiful version of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing":
Donut quilting on a donut table runner!
I gave them each a fat quarter of donut fabric, also, as National Donut Day is celebrated the first Friday in June each year. We'll see what each one makes out of their donut fabric. I made the following table runner, inspired by a blog post from Kathleen McMusing!
My Quilt Info:
Fabric: Donut Worry, Be Happy: Snack Shack by Crystal Manning for Moda
Pattern: Pine Tree Runner from Kathleen McMusing
Size: 46" x 19"
Batting: Quilters Dream Poly
Thread: Glide--Pink
Pantograph: Sprinkled Donuts ⤵️ from Sew Shabby Quilting
The backing is part of an IKEA duvet cover, and the binding is Tula Pink Fairy Dust.
It was going to be too big for my living room table, so I eliminated the inner border that Kathleen had on hers. Then the size came out just right. ⤵️I'm enjoying it now, in my living room. ⤵️
What do you give quilt friends for their birthday? I could use some ideas for next year!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

I just love the Songbook line! Those panels are so cute, what a lovely gift for your friends. They turned out beautiful. I love that quilt stand - I'll look for one of those. Your runner looks just perfect in your living room - so cheerful. Hope you are staying cool!
ReplyDeleteHere's where I got my stand, 8" x 8": https://www.ackfeldwire.com/collections/stand/products/scalloped-singlestand?variant=727075422221
DeleteWe don't do birthday gifts, we all have too much stuff. But I did give my two best gal pals a mug rug and a big coffee mug with a quilt pattern on it for Galentine's day one year. But we don't do this every year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift for your friends and especially that you are keeping one!
ReplyDeleteThose mini quilts are sweet as can be, Nancy - what great gifts for your friends! The donut print is cute, too. It made a very fun tablerunner! Like people have said when they come into my house - you can tell a quilter lives here! I have one quilty friend that I exchange gifts with and sometimes we give quilted items - I've made her a couple zipper pouches, a wall-hanging, a pillow cover, and some small things like pincushions. I need new ideas, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun gifts to give. It is hard to think of something new and different. This year I’m doing embroidered initial pin cushions. Some years, I’ve received coasters, both seasonal or non-seasonal, tiny zipper pouches, a crocheted small pouches, one heat I made stilettos out of turkey skewers with beads glues near the end with the loop.
ReplyDeleteI love my mini quilt for my mini quilt stand. It is a special memory of Mahlon, being one of his favorite hymns. I'm still thinking about what I will do with that adorable donut fabric. I love the donut panto you used on your table runner!
ReplyDeleteYour friends are sure to treasure the mini quilts you made them for their birthdays! The donut fabric is too cute. What fun gifts! Have you made zippered pouches for your BFFs? Like the Hemingway Pouch?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet gift for your friends! They will love them. My friends and I don’t usually do birthday gifts, but we do get together for lunch, and everyone pays for the birthday girl’s lunch.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! What a lovely gift for friends. That donut quilting is just too cute! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

What lovely gift you gave your friends. No doubt they will treasure their mini quilts now and in the coming years. SEDOSO is a huge doughnuts fan. I will share your post with him. He will love the pantograph of the doughnuts and the panel.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet gifts. And I love the donut runner! I make these cases, with a few modifications, https://pellonprojects.wordpress.com/2013/05/02/we-love-moms-cosmetics-case/?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_medium=organic My modifications are the sizing of the pockets. The way they space things makes folds in the middle of pockets. I space the pockets so it naturally breaks at the zippers instead of in the middle of the pocket.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful birthday gift and that song is beautiful! No wonder it was a favorite of your husband. I recently joined a group of women who do exchange birthday gifts. This year, I ordered them a cup from Etsy that had "I Wish You Lived Next Door" printed on it as I have wished I could just run over for a visit!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that all four of you now have the same little quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that all four of you have the same mini-quilt stand with the same mini-quilt! The donut FQ is a fun idea too, and your table runner is lovely. Cute donut quilting! Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea and linking up!
ReplyDeleteI purchased a ton of the Hymn fabric! I love how your panels came out! You all sang such a beautiful hymn at your precious husband's Celebration of Life. He has good taste in music. :) I thought you were joking about using a donut quilting motif until, lo and behold, I saw it! That is wonderful! We usually exchange small tools, fat quarters or sewing decor for our birthdays. Cowls and mug rugs are always a favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe little quilt hangings are gorgeous gifts for your friends. You are lucky they are all quilters, too. And you get to keep one, as well!
ReplyDeleteI like the brightness and fun in the table runner. The donut fabric makes me smile and the donut quilting is great!!!
Gift ideas for friends can be difficult. A lot of my friends are also embroiderers, so I keep my eyes open for little stitching kits. We all like something small and easy to pick up when we want a break from big projects.
The donut quilting just made me laugh. So cute!!! Lovely little quilts for you and your friends.
ReplyDeleteThe mini quilts are adorable, Nancy and are wonderful birthday gifts for your friends. The donut fabric is cute as a button and the Sprinkled Donuts quilting design is perfection!
