More 99 Charms

I have three 99 Charms baby quilt to share with you today--two are about Japan and one is about Minnesota!

My Quilt Info #1:

Pattern: 99 Charms

Size: 41" x 50"

Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20

Thread: Glide--Cream

Pantograph: Ground Cover ⤵️ from Urban Elementz

"Ground Cover" seemed like a good choice for quilting this outdoorsy baby quilt! 

These charms squares are from a long-ago Quilt Minnesota Shop Hop. I must've thought I needed a lot of them, because although I've used some here and there, I still had a lot left!

The idea came to mind to cut all the rest into 5" squares and pair them with scrappy green charm squares for an outdoorsy quilt.

The motifs include a Lady Slipper--the Minnesota state flower, a Loon--the Minnesota state bird, a chair with fishing tackle--for our 10,000+ lakes, pinecones, pine trees and water lilies.

I filled in where needed with a few IKEA motifs. ⤴️ And here's an IKEA duvet cover for backing that I've used before. ⤵️

Thread: Glide--Chestnut

Pantograph: Marquee ⤵️ from Urban Elementz

I quilted this one with "Marquee", which is similar to a sashiko design.

This quilt is all about the different Japanese prints, so humor me with these close-ups!

Most of these fabrics were bought in Japan. It's interesting that the brighter prints mixed in tend to be American prints, like the "koi" goldfish prints, above (purple) ⤴️ and  below (bright blue)! ⤵️ 

For binding I used a print that is a Japanese version of a Baptist fan design, called "waves" or "fans" in Japanese.

This backing is part of a duvet cover from IKEA. I think it is glorious! And the colors go so well with the Japanese prints!

I will be gifting this to a young friend, a MK (missionary kid) who grew up in Japan and lives there again, who is expecting her first baby!

Pantograph: Blowing Pampas Grass ⤵️

This quilt looks very similar to the last one. The difference is in the quilting, "Blowing Pampas Grass" which also looks like a Japanese "sashiko" design. I love using this on Japanese quilts!

I hadn't used this quilting design for quite a while, but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to line up! Patterns like this, that touch the row above, can be fickle and can end up with a gap between rows. But not this one! It was designed very well and was very easy to work with.

For binding I used my favorite Japanese "waves" print--a great substitute for a striped binding! ⤴️⤵️ 

I used the same IKEA duvet cover for the backing as the last quilt. I have enough of this for 1 or 2 more baby quilts, as well. 

If you're new around here, these quilts are called "99 Charms" because they're made from 5" charm squares, 9 columns across and 11 rows down = 99 Charms!
