Scrap Busting

Susan has been busy with these two great scrap quilts! This first one is a Bonnie Hunter pattern called Garden Party. Bonnie is coming out with a new date keeper book with this same quilt on the cover! You can see it here, and see the resemblance between these two scrap quilts.

The quilting we decided on is Deja Vu, using gold thread:

Susan had a bolt of 118" wide cream cotton sateen that we used for the backing. She paid $20 for that bolt at a quilt garage sale, and it started out with 16 1/2 yards!

She said that many of the scraps she used in this quilt were from her mother's stash from the 70s.

Susan's second quilt is from the pattern Fabric Fusion by The Modern Quilt Studio. She used an assortment of batiks for the top.

The quilting is Fascination. Here you can see one block, which has 5 rectangles in it.

Susan used this great floral backing. Isn't it a beauty?!

The finished size of Susan's quilt is 61" X 85". I've made this pattern several times and it looks great in any combination of scraps.

Great job, Susan! Both of those quilts are great scrap busters!!!

  3. Indeed they used up some scraps in those lovelies! Thanks for the link for the last one. If the backing is satin-doesn't it slide right off the bed?

  7. Susan's quilts are gorgeous! And so different from each other, too. A classic Bonnie Hunter and a more modern "stained glass" look. She must be so happy with the quilting :)

  8. I recently purchased some gold thread. Haven't been able to determine when it's appropriate to quilt with. Would love some tips!

  10. Beautiful job, and your quilting complements each of these quilts perfectly. Do you freehand these allover designs from the front of the machine or do you follow pantographs from the back? I have newfound respect for beautiful pantograph quilting now that I've tried it myself. It's definitely not as easy as it looks to stay on the lines, especially with tight, curvy patterns like your feathery design! Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
