✂️Meadowland QAL✂️

Imagine 2,400+ quilts that are all the same, yet all different...

This is what is happening over at #MeadowlandQAL on Instagram right now! I'm participating, along with 2,400+ quilters, sewing the Meadowland quilt, each quilter making it their own, with different fabric choices and sizes. Many of the participants are making 2 or 3 different versions! This is such a fun quilt, it's no surprise it's become so popular. We're on our final week of the QAL, week 6.

Our first week we posted our fabric choices. Here's what I started out with:

My inspiration came from this Design Seeds paint chip photo. You can find a zillion color combos at Design Seeds on Instagram.

Also for week 1, we cut out our fabrics and arranged them in blocks. This is a fat quarter friendly quilt, or scraps work well, also.

For weeks 2 through 5, we sewed 5 blocks per week. Here are mine. I used Pic Stitch, a free phone app, to edit these photos.

We're on week 6 now, assembling the top. Mine is assembled, quilted and bound--you can do that when you own a longarm! I quilted my Meadowland quilt with "Sashiko", a fairly dense shell design:

My finished Meadowland quilt! I did a scrappy binding from my leftover strips:

I got my backing from IKEA. It's a cross section of various fruits and vegetables:

Here's the full size view of the backing:

And the corner block, with my label:

Some more photos taken at IKEA, where I bought my backing fabric:

Yes, I did ask an IKEA clerk if I could take photos there. I told her the fabric on the back is from IKEA. She replied yes, and is it okay if she takes a photo of it, too?! Absolutely!!!

Do you have an IKEA near you? Come back next week for a blog post on how to shop for fabric at IKEA!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  1. I love your version of Meadowland! And I look forward to to learning more about fabric shopping at IKEA. My mom gave me some cute panel fabric that she bought there, but I haven’t purchased any. Your photos are great! I’m glad you could inspire the IKEA clerk too.

  7. So, so beautiful!! You did a fantastic job on your Meadowland, Nancy! I hadn't been inside an Ikea for years, but went twice in the last month to buy a new chair. Now I wish I had taken some quilts for a photo shoot :)

  12. Beautiful quilt! And yes, I have an IKEA near me, though I don't go in much. I hate having to go through the whole store to get out!

  14. Oh, I love the palette here -- it's just want I need now that we're on the verge of spring. And I think it's brilliant that you took pics at IKEA. I've never purchased fabric there before (there's one about an hour from me), and I look forward to what you have to say about it ...

  15. It looks great! And no, I don't have an IKEA near me. In fact there are none in New Zealand, although they have announced they will open one next year. I"m looking forward to exploring their offerings. Thank you for linking up to the Peacock Party.
