Best of 2019 🐗

Welcome to my Best Five 2019, year of the wild boar! Cheryl, over at Meadow Mist Designs, is hosting a gathering of quilt bloggers' top 5 blog posts of the year!

There are no rules for choosing the top five. I am listing mine according to posts with the most views. Here's a collage of my top 5 blog posts for 2019:

Starting with number 5:
I made one of these hearts for my friend, Paula, who is host of Knitting Pipeline podcast and is an ovarian cancer survivor. I had so many 1/2" squares leftover that I made two more--one for my Mom and one to hang by our calendar! I love the look of the rick rack around the edges!
And number 4:
This is a sew along suggested by my sister. I am not sure I would have made it on my own, but her excitement was contagious! I'm so glad I made it as it is the perfect size for our new "guest room of faith"!

Number 3:
In 2018, my small group and quilt guild both decided to do a Gypsy Wife sew along. Having lived in Japan for 24 years, I have a good stash of Japanese fabrics that I wanted to use--new reproduction fabrics, old, upcyled fabrics, cottons and silks. I finished quilting it in February this year, just in time to enter it in our guild quilt show:

It received a 2nd place ribbon from the judges and a 1st place Viewer's Choice ribbon! In August I entered it in our county fair and received an Award of Excellence ribbon!

Number 2:
This is my sister's quilt. I love the Grunge fabrics and the modern design! I quilted it with an edge-to-edge design I nicknamed "Mod Watermelons"!
And my most read blog post of 2019, number 1:
We are fortunate to have an IKEA store nearby, in Minneapolis. But IKEA's fabric department has shrunk down to include only thicker decorating fabrics and linens, no quilt fabric weight choices. If you hunt around in other departments though, as you can read here, there are options, especially for inexpensive quilt backs. Here are some backings I've bought at IKEA:

Thank you for visiting, reading and commenting on my blog in 2019! I appreciate you stopping by!!!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  8. I always say that IKEA is my happy place, although I have yet to incorporate their fabrics into my quilting. I may have to visit my nearby IKEA and check out their latest fabric selection!

  14. Japanese Gypsy Wife - the background color scheme is similar to a knock-off Gypsy Wife that I have at the longarmer. Sooooo love what you did. The judges were spot on in giving you those awards!
