⬒ Topsy Turvy ⬓ PLUS 2 Giveaways!!

This is a super fun quilt to make, "Topsy Turvy", from pattern designer Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts. I was honored to make a test quilt, and I highly recommend this pattern from a jelly roll, or from your own collection, like I did!!!
Quilt Info:
Maker: Me!
Pattern: Topsy Turvy by Preeti @ SewPreetiQuilts on Etsy
Fabrics: A combo of Abandoned, Warehouse District and Marcia Derse, with Grunge background and accents
Size: 55" x 68"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton
Thread: Glide--Nickel for top thread; Wonderfil Trilobal--Ocean Breeze variegated for bobbin
Quilting: City of Fountains ⤵️  from 627Handworks
I love this new quilting pantograph from Julie Hirt called "City of Fountains" and thought this would be a perfect quilt to try it out on--a combo of squares and rectangles, softened by the curved quilting lines.
Interesting Info: Here is Preeti's version ⤵️ made from batiks! Her pattern was originally published in Make Modern Magazine, issue 47. Preeti now has it available as a single pattern which is the revised and updated version, so I highly recommend going that route. Better yet, it's on sale until September 15th for $9!!!
Blocks in progress!⤵️ Preeti has us make the large blocks first.
The placement of all the small, medium and large blocks is mapped out on the pattern. Settling on a final arrangement is always a challenge, wouldn't you agree? I agonized over the arrangement of my blocks on my design wall, switching them around a number of times and finally settled on this arrangement. ⤵️ Although I see a couple of changes I'd make today, if I could!?!
For thread, I went with a matching medium grey ⤴️ on the top. To add interest to the grey Grunge backing, I used a variegated thread, Ocean Breeze, ⤵️ and love how that looks on the plain-ish back!!!
I almost forgot to include the following photo! ⤵️ I was going for the "fountain look", as the quilting design is called "City of Fountains". There are two fountains in our city, that I know of. We decided that the fountain in the first photo beat this fountain out.
I do want to include this photo, because as you can see below, my DH went to a higher level as a quilt holder for this photo--shoes & socks off, and right into the fountain! ⤵️ It is a splash pad for young children, and this is probably the first time a quilt photo was ever taken inside this fountain!
I loved making this quilt--fast and fun, a generous snuggle size, clear instructions and a great use of 2 1/2" strips!!! I highly recommend it!!! It would also be a great project for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day, coming up this year on September 17th!
Five of us made test quilts for Preeti that are debuting today. Check out what the other test quilters made on their blogs:

September 9--Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting--you're here!!!
September 10--Karen @ Kaholly
September 11--Turid @ Den Syende Himmel
September 13--Yvonne @ Sew Yummy

Thank you, Preeti, for the pretty new quilt pattern, Topsy Turvy!!! Here's a link to her pattern on Etsy--on sale for $9 now until September 15th, and after that the regular price will be $12.

Now, for a chance to win a Topsy Turvy PDF pattern from Preeti, leave a comment below about Preeti's new quilt pattern. If you're a no-reply commenter, or use Anonymous, please write out your email address so I can get in touch with you--example: grace and peace quilting at gmail dot com

AND, I am giving away to a second person, my two current favorite notions at my LQS: Aunt Pam's Quilt Sponge and a Pocket Parrot scissors!!! The scissors is a cute, handy size for your purse--snaps into it's covering so it won't poke through anything!

And Aunt Pam's Quilt Sponge says it all on the back: "Say 'Hello' to your new little friend! This incredibly awesome dry sponge works like a charm to collect loose threads, pet hair, and lint from your quilt top or almost anything else." I love how it collects fibers from my cutting board, wool pressing mat and ironing board!!! This giveaway is to a US address only. But everyone is eligible for the Topsy Turvy PDF.

Deadline for entering the drawings is on Friday, September 16th, 2022, at 11:59 PM, Central time.

Edited: the giveaway has ended--the winners are Julie in WA for the Topsy Turvy PDF, and Charlotta for my favs of Aunt Pam's Quilt Sponge and Pocket Parrot Scissors! Congrats, Julie and Charlotta!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  40. Extra kudos to your intrepid quilt holder today. Love your interpretation of Preeti's quilt. The quilt pattern really works well with the quilt. I'm generally not a fan of variegated threads as generally their beauty doesn't show through. But on the back of this one? Glorious. Great job.

  49. I'm pretty late to the party finding these wonderful posts, but I really do like what you did, all of it, everything! I like the fountains and the color on the backing.

I notice you have a Freedom. I bought at Lenni, after deciding I couldn't justify the price of the wonderful Freedom, just as the pandemic was beginning, and I've had a lot of problems. It wasn't my first longarm, but one thing I have trouble with is putting in every single needle! I can't get them right where they belong, which was never a problem with my first machine, and it's the same brand and size needle I used then. If you're going to respond anyway, and you have any tips about that, please let me know. I'll understand if you aren't responding. =)

    1. Hi Susan! Both your above and below comments show up as "noreply-comment@blogger.com", so I'm responding here.

As for putting needles in an APQS, first of all, make sure you have the right ones. They have a bump on them, and just like a baby bump, it goes on the front side. I mention this because at one time I had round needles (no bump) and that did not work.

I put an extra-fine pin in the eye of my needle when I put it in, then position is so that it goes straight out, 6 o'clock. Make sure it's all the way up and in. Tighten the screw. That's it. Pretty straightforward. If you're still having problems you should talk with the tech at APQS. They always get me out of LA trouble.

  51. Lovely quilts! I am especially taken with Topsy Turvy. And I totally agree with you how agonizing it can be deciding on a final layout. All the best for 2023!
