Jessica Rose of Quiltd Studios, designed and named this quilt pattern "Petra", and writes the following: "Petra was inspired by a hike through the mountains of Sicily. Atop one high mountain are the ruins of Greek temples dedicated to the ancient gods. The Greek influence in the Mediterranean Islands is often forgotten, until today!"
I was one of eight members of her "hype team" on Instagram for the Petra Quilt pattern that released on July 21, 2023. You can see some of the quilts representing the Petra Quilt on Instagram at the hashtag, #petraquilt. (Thanks to the Insta algorithms, they don't all show up!?!)
Step One: my fabric pick! Grunge with a couple of Canvas accents. The pattern calls for 4 fabrics, but one could get by with three: main, background and accent. The pattern does show up best in solids, but some of the other makers used cute prints.
Quilt Info:
Maker: Me!
Size: 56" x 76"
Pattern: Petra by Jessica @ Quiltd Studios
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Deluxe
Thread: Glide--Linen
Pantograph: Crosshatch ⤵️ from Urban Elementz
The pattern is a Greek Key design, stitched together in log cabin quilt block style. The blocks are 15", so they go together quickly.
The pattern comes with 3 sizes--crib, throw, and full size. I made the throw size, which is 56" x 76", a comfortable throw size, long enough for tall people!I used leftovers from the backing for the binding--I love how those strips are nice and long!!!
In use in our living room!!!⤵️ I use a thicker Quilters Dream 100% cotton batting--Deluxe weight, and am liking the extra warmth, as we are well into autumn weather here in Minnesota.
Petra is a fun modern quilt pattern that I enjoyed making and I'm enjoying using!!! You might enjoy it, too! Check it out, and all of Jessica's fun, modern quilt patterns, including a few free project downloads!!!
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

I love the texture with that quilting design. Looks perfect in your living room. Tell me more about the wooden dolls in the background sitting on a small table, I assume they are Japanese.
ReplyDeleteThose are “kokeshi dolls”, a famous product from the area near Sendai, Japan, where we lived for 3 years. They make them in the hot springs mountain towns during the quiet winter months, then sell them to the tourist who come to the mountains in the summer to get out of the heat and enjoy the hot springs.
DeletePetra is a really cool modern looking, though ancient, design. Great job on the quilting!
ReplyDeleteYour quilting choice is perfect for Petra! Lovely quilt. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

It's just charming! I'm happy for you to be using it already. Must say you made me smile, saying how you used Deluxe weight batting for it's extra warmth. Since moving to Florida, I've been using Quilter's Dream Request (lowest) loft batting, and it's been great. I always split a roll with a friend, and we manage to run out of our half-rolls at the same time. So, we've placed several orders together. The last time we ordered, she asked if we could get Select (low-mid) loft this time. I agreed... and boy do I regret it! First of all, being a domestic machine quilter, I've realized how much more effort it takes to move a heavier weight batting across my quilting surface, and second, the quilt, when finished, is markedly heavier! Can't imagine ever using such a heavy quilt while living here. As it is, I usually sleep only under a sheet. It takes a lot of Florida cool to chill this former Midwestern gal! Anyway, you have a lovely quilt there, and I'm glad for you to be using it already.
ReplyDeleteI recommend Quilters Dream Bamboo for people living in warm climates--it's buttery soft, subtle and lightweight, just right for warm weather.
DeleteLove the simple design and that quilting design really pairs well with it. The colors are nice, too. Great idea on the change in batting for the cooler season coming! Gotta have those snuggley quilts for our winters!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous quilt....love the color selection and Crosshatch is perfect. I often think you need curvy lines with a straight quilt pattern, but I really love this choice. I bet it is just cozy to snuggle under these fall nights!
ReplyDeletePetra is a gorgeous quilt. What a fun and interesting design and love the quilting. Have a wonderful day, Nancy.
ReplyDeleteLove your blue grunge. Maybe because I'm using a blue grunge now too. Petra is an interesting design and I like that it makes up a bigger block. As everyone else has said that quilting is perfect for this design. Great job all around.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! The quilting enhances the pieces in the quilt! Well done!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love a bold, graphic design.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool one!! I bet you were ( are) a great person to be on a hype team! Great finish!!!

ReplyDeleteLovely selection of blues and I really like that design. Good to see it already in use. (Karen, Sunburnt Quilts.)
