National Sew a Jelly Roll Day 🌀 2023

The third Saturday of every September has been declared National Sew a Jelly Roll Day! In 2023, it was September 16th. My sister and I have a tradition of sewing together on that day, using the same pattern, different fabrics. This year we chose Jelly Roll Twist, a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop!
Quilt Info #1:
Maker: Me!
Pattern: Jelly Roll Twist Quilt from Fat Quarter Shop
Jelly Roll: Snowberry by 3 Sisters
Size: 51" x 68"
Batting: Quilters Dream 80/20
Thread: Glide--Linen
Pantograph: Larkspur 2 ⤵️ from My Creative Stitches
The pattern calls for 34 jelly roll strips. I used more, as long as the strips didn't blend into the background squares of Grunge Creme. I made 6 extra blocks and made my quilt one row longer than the pattern.
I pieced together 15 fat quarters for the back. These are from a bundle given to me by Rose of @SomethingRoseMade and is a line designed by Nancy Zieman in 2016 called Garnet.
Interesting Info: I bought this jelly roll during a visit to Missouri Star Quilt Co.--it was the deal of the day for under $20!!! Snowberry arrived in shops in June, 2017, so I probably bought it during a visit to MSQC in August, 2017!

Bonnie bought this jelly roll at her favorite quilt shop, Bay Window Quilt Shop, in Perham, MN, while on vacation last summer. She found it in the sale nook for a great price!!!
Super cute prints!!!
Sage green extra-wide backing⤵️
Beautiful finish, Bonnie!!!
It took awhile to get these done, with Christmas rolling around and my broken wrist. But I'm glad to say we've both finished our National Sew a Jelly Roll quilt for 2023, and are looking ahead to the next jelly roll day on September 21, 2024!

Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

  7. You two have so much fun sewing together - and both quilts are so pretty (and what great deals on the jellyrolls!). The Perham shop is a favorite of my SIL - we go when I'm up there to visit her.

  8. I like the idea of quilting together on a special day like National Sew a Jelly Roll Day. I think I'll check with my quilting buddy to see if we want to do it over Face Time. Unfortunately we don't live close any more. As usual, I am intrigued with one of your quilting designs -- Lovely Loops. It's soft and pretty but not flowers. Now to see if I even have a jelly roll.

  9. I love these quilts and that you and Bonnie both purchased them on sale. I love your pieced backing and that the backing fabric came from Rose and works perfectly with that collection. I am glad that you are back to quilting...these injuries are no fun recuperating from!

  11. What a fun idea to have a special sewing day with your sister. And the quilts are a bonus. Great finishes with both fabrics. I like the idea of making the quilt a row longer. And your backing works really well, too.
