Sibling Quilts

Have you made quilts for your siblings? I just quilted 3 quilts in a row made by quilters for their siblings!!!
Quilt Info #1:
Maker: Karen
Fabrics: Scottish Wool
Size: 52" x 73"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Request
Thread: Glide--Oyster
Pantograph: Amoebas Gone Wild from Urban Elementz
Because this is made from wool, Karen took great care to make her seam allowances 1/2" wide and pressed all her seams open. Nevertheless, there was a lot of bulkiness, loose weaves, and the wool moved around with the stitching. I had to keep my hands on both sides of the hopping foot as it stitched across the top. Meandering was the perfect quilting choice, as anything other than meandering would've been extremely difficult to carry out.
Minkee back⤵️
This is a very sentimental quilt for Karen--it's made from wool and woolen kilts her mom bought in Scotland and saved over the years. Karen determined to make them into 2 quilts--one for each of her siblings. After asking a lot of questions she came up with this simple design to showcase her mom's wool collection. This one is for her brother!
Quilt Info #2:
Maker: Regina
Pattern: Nooks & Crannies by Fig Tree & Co.
Size: 94" x 108"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Deluxe
Thread: Glide--Linen
Pantograph: Butterfly Garden ⤵️ from Intelligent Quilting
Regina picked Butterfly Garden for quilting, which fits the theme of this beautiful quilt so well!!!
This is a Fig Tree & Co pattern. Regina added on to the pattern to make it a large enough for a queen size bed with a pillow tuck. Regina made this for her twin sister!
This Kaffe Fassett 108" wide backing fabric is just perfect with this quilt!
Beautiful quilt, Regina!!!
Quilt Info #3:
Maker: Karen
Fabrics: Scottish Wool
Size: 52" x 73"
Batting: Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Request
Thread: Glide--Denim
Pantograph: Amoebas Gone Wild from Urban Elementz
Here's Karen's second Scottish wool quilt. This one is made for her sister!
Navy border and navy minkee for backing!
Karen is planning on bringing the minkee from the back to the front and stitching, for self-binding, on both of her wool quilts.
Beautiful, thoughtful quilts, Karen and Regina!

  1. Cute butterflies for this lovely quilt! I love the sweet colors on this one, and the quilting is charming and matching the sweetness. Beautiful wool quilts too, you choose the perfect quilting pattern for those, and it shows beautifully on the minky backing.
It's fun to make quilts for the siblings, my 2 sisters have theirs too 😋

  2. Fascinating quilts. Love those triangles. Lucky family member.
But I am fascinated with the use of wool. First of all, what a great idea. And how lovely to make them for siblings.

  3. Wow these are gorgeous - I thought the first one was going to be my favorite, then I saw the last one - oh my gosh! I SO wish I had been a quilter from the start - I would have made both my brothers quilts, as well as my Mom and Daddy. Maybe in my next life. ;)

  5. Those wool and minky quilts must weigh a ton! Great way to use those special fabrics and you did a wonderful job with the quilting as usual.

  6. What a terrific way to use special fabrics! The thickness of the wool quilts must have also been an issue with tension. Both are beautiful finishes and the butterfly garden quilting for the middle quilt was the perfect choice! What special gifts!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects

  9. Those wool quilts were lucky to have you quilt them and what treasures they will be. Love the quilt with the butterflies, too, and the Kaffe backing. I have made quilts for my siblings; probably time to make each a new one!

  12. Yikes, I'm not sure I could cut into authentic quilts. I have my grandmother's but haven't worn it for ages. I shortened it while in college. Can you say mini kilt? But it is a lovely idea to make the quilts for her siblings. I bet they are really heavy! Beautiful work on all the quilts.

  17. Beautiful quilts! I can just picture what you had to do to quilt the wool quilts - on minky backing, no less! That's some awesome quilt-wrangling! Wonderful quilting on all three - they'll be special treasures for sure.
