I have another RSC project I'm doing in 2025, related to using up my scrap jelly roll strips. It's a nine-patch and snowball quilt, inspired by Saija's quilt, here. Saija was inspired by Blue Elephant Stitches, here!!!
I'm using spare 2 1/2" squares from my scrap bin. I emptied my bin quite well with the RSC in 2023, by making these two quilts. ⤵️ My bin is about 1/4 full again.
I noticed Saija didn't use all the colors in the rainbow, but rather kept it light and bright, including light pink, fuchsia, lime green, light blue, orange, and purple. I'm taking my cue from Saija's quilt and sticking with light and bright.
I made 9 blocks this month. These are close-ups, 4 light pink and 5 fuchsia.
I'm often inspired by other bloggers. How about you?
Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy
This is a good way to use 2.5" squares. I just normally sew them into 4 patches and make scrappy patchwork. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI'm often inspired by other quilters as well! Sometimes it results in a quick trip into the sewing room to make a block to use as a reminder, especially when it's a RSC block idea.
ReplyDeletewow pink on steroids but oh so pretty
ReplyDeleteOoooof, I should not have read your post today, now I feel compelled to start a nine-patch and snowball - lol! What a gorgeous start!
ReplyDeleteI love the nine-patch and snowball design, too, and that inspiration quilt is beautiful! Perfect use for 2.5 inch squares. I'll enjoy seeing your blocks come together!
ReplyDeleteI am most certainly inspired by other quilters. Just ask Diann. I often copy/am inspired by her!. That is going to be a wonderful quilt.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty blocks, Nancy. You have a fabulous variety of pinks.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea for using up those 2.5" squares. Very pretty blocks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pink blocks, I love the little guy on one of the light squares (the cute cat). I always enjoy to see the blocks up close and admire your pretty fabrics. Quilters are always a great source of inspiration, and I thank you for sharing and linking up your work.
ReplyDeleteI have seen Blue Elephant's nine-patch and snowball quilt before, and I think it is a terrific scrapbuster! I look forward to your version, Nancy! :)
ReplyDeleteDid I read that right, you plan to make a jelly roll race quilt each month? Goodness, that will keep you busy. I certainly get inspiration from other RSC quilters, I've copied/borrowed lot of their ideas over the years. Everyone seems happy to share.
ReplyDeleteYour 36-Patch quilts turned out beautifully, Nancy! Have fun with those 9-Patch blocks. Love, love, LOVE rainbow quilts!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of jelly rolls, both for races, and for 2-1/2" squares! No jelly rolls here, but I sometimes cut scraps into 2-1/2" squares. I have a few that will someday go into a scrap quilt. Sure love the "hot" colors in your fuchsia and pink blocks. No doubt they'll go well with whatever color comes up next in your RSC project.
ReplyDeleteLove your idea and your hot blocks for your RSC this year! Yes, other bloggers inspire me. I've made string quilts, participated in mystery sew alongs, gotten ideas and found resources for my stitching challenges. --TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics in those pretty blocks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks. I love your variety of pinks.
ReplyDeleteI can see why this quilt has inspired you. Great to do it as part of RSC.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a good way to use 2.5" squares and odds and ends from jelly rolls. The blocks look terrific.
ReplyDeleteIsn’t it funny how those bins just start filling right back up? You are making good use of yours, and it’s fun to see the chain of inspiration and how everyone puts their own spin on it.
ReplyDeleteLook at all those pretty pinks! You've been busy! The combination snowball and 9-patch is really beautiful. (I should not get into anything new now! lol)
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty pinks! Are you going to make different colors each month for a mix? Or stick with one color for each quilt? Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

ReplyDeleteI started the challenge with yo-yo's and hope to complete the year making yo-yo's each month.
ReplyDeleteLove these pink blocks, Nancy. They are definitely light and bright. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. I, too find inspiration from others, and I love the use of the lights and brights in the inspiration quilt. I think this will be stunning.
