The April Rainbow Scrap Challenge is red. I'm including teal, turquoise and aqua! IYKYK! These are my jelly roll race baby quilts for April!!!

I'm making an effort to clear out my 2 1/2" strip drawer this year by making these jelly roll race baby quilts.

Check out this binding fabric.⤵️ I had it cut for a wide border for a quilt, then I didn't make the quilt. Have you ever done that?? It was a good width to cut 2 1/2" strips from: enough to bind these two teal/turquoise/aqua quilts, plus you'll see a lot of the same print in the red/teal quilts below!
Another fun, modern pantograph from Sew Shabby Quilting--she recently moved all her pantographs to a separate website at Sew Shabby Pantos, separating her longarm quilting business from her pantograph sales.
After sewing those 2 quilts together, I found a basket of more teal fabrics in my studio! I had pulled those for the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt two years ago, then I broke my wrist and that was the end of those plans. At this point, I also discovered that the real color for April is red. So I decided to combine my red strips with my teal/turquoise/aqua and I had enough for 2 more baby quilts!

The bindings for these two red/teal quilts were leftover strips from 108" backing fabrics! I love it when I can use such long strips for binding--less piecing!!!
These four, along with the other 9 jelly roll race quilts I've made so far this year, will be going to Bundles of Love, a local NPO that provides bundles of newborn baby items to families in need.

ReplyDeleteI don't know which pantograph I like better. Wow - such fun designs! The last one though is really unique and cute. Those are perfect choices for the jelly roll race quilts. The backing really allows the panto to be a star too.

ReplyDeleteNow that is what I call working in a series. Not only are the strip quilts a great exercise in how to combine colors, but the first three pantographs look like a developing series.

Your teal scraps by themselves make beautiful quilts, Nancy, but the teal and red combined are just amazing! And neat pantographs for the quilting, too. These quilts are going to be loved by the families that receive them!

DeleteAll of them are wonderfully beautiful, Nancy! Such a good color combo, and eye-catching range of prints. As well, your quilting is perfection. I especially like "Burners" because, as you said, it's very modern-looking. Your workmanship is always perfect, and these quilts are knock-outs!

ReplyDeleteEvery time you post one of these jelly roll race quilts, I fall in love! I cannot choose a favorite! These are so fun! I have never made a jelly roll race quilt of any size. By the time you finish all of your colorful variations for the year, I might just have to put this on my to-do list! :)
