Purple is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for July. I'm using my scrap 2 1/2" strips to make baby-sized jelly roll "drag race" quilts! This month my scrap drawer held enough for one!
Size: 40" x 50"
Batting: Quilters Dream Cotton
Thread: Glide--Lilac
"Diamond Loops" is easier to see on the solid grey backing, a 60" wide fabric from IKEA.⤵️

Ooooo I LOVE the purples! I really love those jelly rolls quilts. And that panto is beautiful. Do you actually go to IKEA and shop, or do you order online?
ReplyDeleteWe have an IKEA 13 minutes from our home, so yes, I go in person every now and then. I put a limit of $19.99 max per item, so I don't get tempted by the more expensive duvet covers, which may go on sale at a later date anyway. This grey fabric is $9.99 for a 3 yard cut of 60" wide fabric, which is a great price for wider fabric.
DeleteWell you know purple is my favorite color and yet I don't sew with it often but I sure love to wear it. You find some great deals at IKEA!
ReplyDeleteyay for a finish already!!! I am impressed - its so pretty. I just pulled my purples out
ReplyDeleteand wow - what a great number you have finished so far!!
You balanced all the different purples nicely. Great score on the backing fabric.
ReplyDeleteA child is going to love this!
ReplyDeleteWow , Nancy! You have some amazing purples in your collection. This quilt is yummy. I am drawn to the fabric with the butterflies- too cute.
ReplyDeleteLove how you presented your chart of drag racing quilts by month. Such a fun way to keep track of your efforts. I find purple fabrics more varied than colors. Your quilt is a perfect example of going from dusty lilac, paired with orange, a large patterned grape motif and so much more.
ReplyDeletePurple! Now that's a color that's nearly depleted in my stash. I have just some odd bits of scraps left. You sure used these strips to good effect! On the close views, not all of them strips are purple, per se, but they work nicely together, making nice contrast. You did well! Love that Diamond Loops design too. Great work!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty in purple! The stitching design is a really pretty one.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun finish, Nancy! I love how all the pretty purples play so well together. You are doing an amazing job with your strippy quilts this year!
ReplyDelete60" fabric is perfect for so many lap quilts! And what a good idea for using scraps. I get so overwhelmed with all my scraps, as I can't seem to throw anything away. I think I will try to whittle down my scraps with these types of quilts. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful purple scraps. That is a pretty quilt
ReplyDeleteAwesome quilt! I love the mix of red-purples, blue-purples, darks and lights. Very striking. Wish I could find great deals like that at our IKEA!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful jelly roll quilt finished, and I'm more than impressed with your quilt totals so far. You do know that you are inspiring some of us RSC quilters to add this design to our lists, arent you?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful purple strips, and I love this quilting panto, elegant and pretty! Well done with another beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing and linking up!
Beautiful finish. My grand daughters went through a totally purple phase although they have grown out of it somewhat. I'm in awe of the depth of your 2.5" strips. I have one drawer of that size strips and not enough of one color to actually do a one color quilt with. It would be much faster to do the jelly roll race than the string quilts I'm working on now. Beautiful job all around.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful finish. I too like the way you are documenting the number of quilts you have finished each month!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, what a lovely combo of patterns and purples.
ReplyDeleteTHis is just gorgeous and what a wonderful selection of prints and purples, Nancy. How lucky to have an Ikea nearby.Ours is all the way downtown about an hour from us so I get there about three times a year. But they do have free delivery which is nice.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfectly purple quilt! :) Great backing find at IKEA...I go and can't seem to find anything but then again, I am usually over stimulated in the IKEA. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so incredibly beautiful, just a vibrant and gorgeous piece of artwork.

Fabulous purple finish! I love the pantograph, too, that you chose. Nice to see the totals of all the little quilts you made...so impressed.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks great in purple.
ReplyDeleteAgain it is another colour I would not have considered using, but you have shown how well purple does work. Great finish.
Would you believe that I have never visited an IKEA? Ha, ha! Love the purple, of course! But the orange is still my favorite! :)
ReplyDeletePurples are my favorite so I'm in love with this quilt! You've made so many no wonder your scrap bin is getting empty! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

What a gorgeous quilt! I love all your purples in it. I love the quilting pattern you did too. Swirly, twirly. Congrats on another finish!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! We've had a 15 yr old girl visiting us at our quilting ministry this summer with her grandmother that doesn't sew very much. I started her on one of these quilts that was totally scrappy and the strips were random lengths. I showed her how to sew the short ends together and how to measure and mark the long strip until it measured 40 yards, then how to start sewing the strips together lengthwise. She finished the top this week and she always had the biggest grin on her face every time she was at the machine. I think she is hooked! She gets to come back one more time before school starts here and I will show her how to press the top and to sew the victory lap. Thank you for your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThese are my colors, Nancy! I really love this one a lot and that motif from the Christies is great! Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
ReplyDeletePS: I didn't know Ikea had fabric! Cool!
DeleteLove how your jelly roll quilts are mixes of all kinds of values. Adds a lot of interest. Do you plan that out or do you just do a regular race type sewing session? And it is an improv, good luck kind of thing? xo
