The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for August is yellow. My RSC goal this year is to whittle down my stack of 5" scrap charm squares by turning them into baby quilts, 9 squares across by 11 squares down, therefore "99 Charms" quilts. Here are five yellow 99 Charms quilts I made for August.

Sunny quilting for a sunny quilt! Angela mentioned that one probably doesn't want to make an all yellow quilt, but here it is! I did include a number of accent colors in many of the yellow squares.
There are a number of Japanese fabrics thrown in here, also.

I pretty much split my stack of yellow related charm squares into 2 groupings. This is the 2nd quilt I worked on.

I split the rest of the yellow charms in half and combined these with some blue charms.
More of those IKEA duvet cover penguins!
Making these baby quilts give me a chance to use a variety of quilting designs. I love this "Floral Garden" quilting!

Bravo! That's quite an accomplishment. FIVE quilts! I'm in awe! I'm also amaze at the amount of 5" squares you have. I hope the stash has been reduced a little bit by using 495 squares. I love the *Floral Garden* quilting pattern the best. ;^)

DeleteWith all the charm quilts you are doing you must be almost out of charms?? These are just fun, you have toned down the brightness of them perfectly by pairing them with charms with lots of accent colors. Fantastic work Nancy.

ReplyDeleteHoly yellow batwings! FIVE FINISHED baby quilts?? WoW!! An in all those charm squares, I spotted four fabrics that I've had in my stash and I have had a lot of yellow over the years. The backing fabrics are super cute. The quilting pantographs provide just the right amount of texture!

ReplyDeleteI love seeing your 99 charm quilts, and this latest yellow batch is wonderful, as usual. You are inspiring me to dive into the crates in the wardrobe to find my bag of 5in square too. Although my amount will be small compared to your collection. I love seeing your monthly quilt totals in the different colours too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on whittling down your Charm piles! It's so fun to look at your fabrics in these quilts and certainly the recipients will enjoy them as well. I do have fun taking a fabric that I love for the backing, which has usually been sitting in my stash for months/years, and then creating the top to go with it.

ReplyDeleteI love that 2 quilts turned into 5 and 495 squares used up...that is one busy bee you have been. Love the bear backing ... looks great. I think the honeycomb with bees is my favorite, I always wanted to use that pattern and love seeing it used with bee and honey colored fabrics.

ReplyDeleteI think yellow is a difficult colour to use in a quilt by itself, but you have a knack of combining fabrics so well, that these all look wonderful.
The Ikea backings are a great idea and create a cheerful feel to the back as well. I like the new bear one.
I like your thinking with these quilts giving you the chance to try out so many different quilting designs.

Yellow seems to be a popular theme color lately. You’ve used your charm squares to good effect! I marvel that you found such a great print at IKEA. I’ve sure never seen anything like that when I’ve visited. In any case, those penguins are adorable. You did so well with these, Nancy! You put my efforts to shame.

These are great, Nancy! Your RSC project is a wonderful study of the color wheel! I am a fan of the intense colors, yellow and orange (but not pink...lol), and these turned out super! You must have quite the stash! 😉
